my 80 year old grandmother could shoulder tackle Alex Ross, he goes down like a paper napkin and heupel doesn't even run the ball...ever. Source: years of disappointment watching josh throw games away in person and Alex Ross get trucked by 5'10 dbacks.

How is the defensive line looking for this year? It's been great seeing your defense the last two years.

Heupel's offense averaged 43 carries a game in 2013 and 2014. They were 60/40 run/pass both years. He calls to the strength of his roster from what I have seen.

He had terrible QBs in 2013 and 2014. He doesn't gameplan and he attacks the defense at it's strength, not it's weakness, in grab-bag playcalling fashion. No method to his madness. His tenure was a very disorganized, confusion on the field, time out calling, frustrating few years.

Oh god the painful timeouts lol. He would line the offense up and Trevor knight would stare at the sideline for 15 Seconds and josh would call a timeout...

I find it interesting that you guys are laying it all on Heupel when the defense was allowing 38 pts per loss the years he was OC. A large portion of the fan base couldn't wait to see Venebles leave and it seems that Mike Stoops gets a pass for his squads effort vs the better Big 12 teams.

MU should win 7 games. I like the defense. The back end has been more athletic each season since 2013. Hill taking the WRs back over should stabilize what was one of the most consistent position groups during GP's tenure. Ball skills, secondary route running, and blocking eroded under Pat Washington, who I thought was a great add to the staff at the time. If Elarbee gets the right pieces together in the middle of the line they could over achieve on the back end of the schedule and win 8 or 9. I don't think things will be together offensively vs UGA and winning in Baton Rouge and the Swamp don't seem likely.

Mizzou football beats whatever they do in Oxford. Mississippi has no 10 win regular seasons and zero recognized division titles.

Plus we own OM head to head.

Dude you have no football knowledge whatsoever.

Les Miles' scheme is just fine. I'm sure you'd love to see some young 20 something with a visor running the coolest new spread offense there ever was than to see a seasoned guy like Les running an offense that isn't sexy, but he knows it and it's been proven. That's the problem with fans. They'd rather see a long incompletion than a five yard run.

And Dave Aranda is one of the best DC's in college football. What's he done to deserve being called a terrible defensive coordinator?

Will be interesting to see how Heupel uses Ross given how much he hates running the ball.

He'll run the ball under Odom or he won't have a job

Those offenses were horrid statistically on third downs every year heupel was there. The defenses were never the issue early in the games, it was 3rd and 4th quarters when OU lost games. See Baylor vs OU 2014

Venables and his staff left our cupboards empty when he left. Combine that with an average defense being stuck on the field all the time because of an ineffective offense and there you have it.

Venables never put a top 50 defense on the field during his tenure here. His defenses averaged in the low 60s. He insisted on playing a soft zone coverage 4-3 defense against air raid attacks and as a result, he couldn't recruit DBs, his secondaries were porous and known for catastrophic coverage busts, and he had LBs covering speedy WRs and getting torched as a result over and over. That's why he lost in Lubbock every year during his tenure. He was terrible here and in over his head.

Mike has stocked our secondary with elite DBs for years to come and there are no more coverage busts to be seen. He is rebuilding the defense from back to the front and the young LBs and DL are just now catching up to where we need them to be.

Venables now plays in a weak two team league and only has to gameplan for FSU which runs the same old pro style offense they ran in the 90s. The only spread offense in his league is his own team and we know the ACC is known for it's offensive firepower.

2013 wasn't great but the 4 year mean of 44% isn't horrible. The 4 year mean during the previous 4 years was 46% on 3rd down.

This is false. Venebles national scoring defense rankings from 2004-2011

2004-9th
2005-32nd
2006-18th
2007-16th
2008-62nd
2009-9th
2010-29th
2011-29th

How many points did OU score on his defense in the Orange Bowl?

Only surprise win I see is against Arkansas
Beating UK, USC, and Vandy is not much of a surprise to most
If you can beat UGA, UT or UF then it will be a surprise and a great season for you
