re: Derek Dooley Sucked

This was a very strange game.. here are my quick takeaways:
• Our LB’s could NOT STOP STRETCH TO SAVE THEIR LIVES! Hall and Garrett are at their best when they can play free and go. Stretch forces LB’s to be patient and our guys got caught flat-footed and stuck on blocks. That’s not really a coaching thing as much as it was that they weren’t seeing the picture clearly.
• Paul Adams... WTF?!?! He’s been our most stable OL since he was a sophomore filling in for Taylor Chappell. But the last two games, he’s been a turnstile. He was dominated all game long. He threw one good block on the speed option TD, but he gets a D grade.
• Nobody’s going to say this, but if we have Albert O, Crockett, and Emanuel Hall healthy, I still think we win by 10. Or we at least get the 4th down conversion. I didn’t think the calls were THAT bad. Lock had a piss poor exchange and hesitated on the zone read, giving the LB time to scrape over the top and stop him short. He had a deer in the headlights look all play long. Never looked fully confident. This is where KB will help big-time!
• Our DB’s are rough... oh my God. How we get beat inside so many times is baffling. The Air Raid passing game is literally centered around attacking the MOF and we couldn’t defend the middle to save our lives.
• The lack of a MOF receiving threat (AO) forced us to result to a Heupel-style passing game in an attempt to beat OSU’s press-man. Florida gave us the exact same defense, and we destroyed them over the middle. We were forced into throwing low-percentage passes like outs, fades, etc. That is probably why Dooley didn’t want to pass. Not to mention we couldn’t pick up a blitz or stunt to save our lives.

After watching Trinity play, I can assure you that you don’t want those guys. They are CLASSLESS beyond repair. They have been enabled the past four years, and College will be a real wake-up call for some of them.

Exactly. Im so sick of the narrative, regardless of how true it may be.

I was coaching last night so I only got to see the 4th quarter.
VERY impressed with the defense. Just in terms of getting off blocks and playing physical, we were stout. We do a really good job of spilling the football outside, but our DB’s are never there to fill the alley or force (except Bledsoe) so we get fricked on runs bouncing out. I don’t think anyone wants to run RIGHT AT US this year. Terez is a man

Can confirm. I live in Ashland and there just isn't any excitement for Mizzou football.

Trinity is one of the sloppiest teams in the state. They have just god awful coaching but great athletes to make up for it

That’s the vibe I get too. I’d love to be proven wrong, but he seems like a 100% “me first” type of cancerous locker room presence.

I’m just hearing the word “more” a little bit too much on both sides of the ball. I worry because (especially with the offense) this sounds like the Cross transition on defense

I just saw on Twitter that the spring game is next week. I literally live in Columbia and I like to think I follow the team pretty closely and I thought the spring game was 2-3 weeks away.
I respect Odom’s non-flashy nature, but good grief.

This is literally a worse outcome than the one predicted by the most pessimistic fans last year. How do we only manage to get one of the MO 10?

Spread offenses aren’t gimmicks anymore lol. When 90% of CFB runs the same offense, that’s when it stops becoming a gimmick. I remember reading a quote from Chris Peterson going into their game vs. Stanford where he said that he had to introduce his team to what a fullback was because they’ve never heard of it before.
And the plays aren’t different. You’ll still see Power/Counter, IZ, and some Iso like we saw this year. IMO you’re trying to “out-athlete” people when you attack with the same offense 90% of other teams run and rely on your receivers trying to win 1v1 matchups all the time.
Pro-style offenses get a bad wrap because of the stigma from the 90’s where the QB turns around, hands the ball off, and watches the play 30 times a game. That’s not what I anticipate. I still expect a healthy dose of RPO, and getting Rountree/Crockett on downhill runs like they’ve always been.

I actually like the pro style offense. I think it allows us to put our best personnel on the field for this season (2 TEs especially)
I don’t like the halfassed hire. everything Dooley touches goes to shite. How do people not see that?

Here’s my extended rant if y’all wanna hear it:
It just feels like we haven’t made any effort to recruit any 4 star guys since we had the Missouri 10 visit earlier this year (remember that lol).
We’re sitting out here basically BEGGING for a mid-level 3 star TE in Messiah Swinson. He’ll probably be a fine collegiate athlete and will be successful wherever he goes, but he’s a program guy and not a program changer. Do you think any other team in the SEC is begging for mid-level 3 stars that aren’t even in-state? Not to mention he plays a position we’re incredibly deep at.
Meanwhile I look on my twitter feed and see four star after four star either decommit or leave us out of their “top ___”. Then I have to watch the pathetic press box super friends try to find the silver lining, then try to get us excited that we flipped a fricking 2* RB from Tulane.
And I don’t mind the fact that our staff has their own system of evaluation and stuff but can we stop being so lame about it? I distinctly remember listening to a podcast from Rock M Nation (forgot what it was called) and they were interviewing one of the press box super friends around NSD. They were saying that the staff basically lost their shite when Kobie Whiteside committed to us. They said the staff had him rated as the #2 player in the country. HE WAS A FRICKING 2* WITH NO OTHER POWER 5 OFFERS! Meanwhile we just sit back and watch about every instate recruit just stiff arm us and head off to Oklahoma/Illinois/K-State or whatever. He did play more than other 2* true freshmen across the country, but he’s not going to be the type of guy that gets us to a 10 win season.
I’m so tired of this shite. I feel like there has simply not been any sense of urgency to get our program back to what it was in pre-2015. Where are all the guys who care about this team? Half of our fan base has simply quit caring since the protests (which is no longer a viable excuse). We don’t attend games, we don’t watch our games on TV, we don’t demand a better product. It’s laughable that a state with one FBS program, let alone it being in the SEC, gets a once in a lifetime class full of guys who grew up as fans of that team and we don’t even know what to do with them. How many of those kids didn’t even include us in their top five? Are we just supposed to accept it and watch our team wither away into the cellar of the SEC?
I’m one of the unlucky bastards who’s freshman year was marked by the protests and I’ll be damned if this team is settling for this level of shittyness when I graduate!

He literally hates it there ???? he just doesn’t even care and it shows. Looks like somebody coaching in an NCAA 14 dynasty at a small school waiting for the big time school to offer
I need to let it all out

I'm pretty excited for the future of this program and I think we still have some good pieces so far in our recruiting class. But damn this could possibly be the most disappointing signing day for Mizzou that I could possibly imagine. I get that stars aren't everything, but I don't know how we're getting out-recruited by Vandy and Rutgers.
I think it's pathetic that we're sitting around getting excited about guys who are low 3* and 2* guys while the likes of Trout, Perkins, and Goodrich are looking down at us as they sign to USC/Oklahoma, etc. Remember when we were in play to sign some of these guys? I did not expect us to sign all of them by any means, but maybe sign at least one guy in the top 5 of the Missouri 10 (or whatever they're called). This is a once in a lifetime chance for Mizzou to have a realistic shot at getting some 4/5* recruits that are in-state and we're blowing it.
I understand that after the way we started the season it was understandable for Trout/Perkins/etc to stop considering us. But damn I am still frustrated about this. If this program is ever going to get to where most reasonable fans think it could get (guaranteed bowl team most years), then can we really get by on being 3* U? I only have faith in BO because he has already found some diamonds in the rough (Crockett, Mason, Garrett, Rountree) but how long does it have to go on like this?
I'm just wondering if anyone else feels this as well :banghead:

I’m pissed at Tennessee fans because they’re using this Paterno stuff to cover up the fact that they’re mad it’s not Gruden.

Let’s be honest. We’re just happy to say we’re bowl eligible. No fire from anybody today
