I'm not going look, but wasn't Odem the HC for those two SECE titles?

Pinkle was one of the best coaches in college football. It's a shame he had to hang it up early

USC fans......don’t do this. Pick a bigger program to bag on. You beat Uga. Use that one.

Come up to their level and don’t go down to that level.

Missouri fans, I know Pinkel got cancer and had to hang it up. I thought I heard him on some program fairly recently. Has he beaten the cancer or is he still getting treatments, what is his status??

His teams were always prepared to play and they played hard.

watched the first half of that game across from busch while the Cards - sox WS game 4 was happening. stopped watching assuming they would win. celebrated after the cards game thinking we just won both cards and mizzou. wanted to cry the next morning.

iirc the cancer never became a big deal, was controlled early. He's always been around the program, never left to this day.

Some say he used the cancer to get out of the whole protest mess, and if it weren't for the protesting, he may still be coaching. Who knows. The timing is something that has one thinking tho.

I did not realize the protest thing was there then. I thought that came along a while after he stepped down.

Glad to hear he beat the cancer, I am a cancer survivor myself.

ya- cancer, protesting, boycotting, it all happened at once practically.

Im not sure its been beat - maybe it has, but that he always had a good handle on it.

From a June 24 SI Article : (2019)

quote:

Former Missouri football coach Gary Pinkel says he is being treated for cancer again.

Obviously over a year ago so hopefully things are better for him now, but he says that his type of cancer will never be healed but will continue fighting it.

Pinkel was a solid coach.

It could be worse, look at arky.

The REAL prob at Mizzou over the last DECADES...lack of Power-5 level administrators/board members above the HC level. Flat truth. With a SEC level admins/board, we'll compete in the SEC. ie. The AD (Alden) that hired Pinkel TOTALLY F****D over our basketball program. Look at that current abortion since joining the SEC.

Pinkel's recruiting did not capitalize on '13 & '14. Super poor classes that were handed to Odom. That's squarely on Pinkel after years of hard work. Pinkel had a new wifey and they camped out at Lake of the Ozarks. Maybe that was part cancer recovery??? Then the '15 protest crap hit. He was at the lake, calling it in until he had to return to COMO and look like deer in the headlights with worthless AD Rhoades (at Baylor now). So the new wifey, cancer and poor effort. Pinkel was told...resign or you're fired. He made his decision and it was best for all. I'm glad he's gone and there was a time I would have kissed his big toe.

Mizzou was crippled by the protest and had no real choice but to hire rookie Odom...not news. He wasn't ready for the SEC and it showed, ask UK and UGA. You don't cut your HC teeth in the SEC. SEC coaches schooled Odom and it was sickening. OC Dooley was a joke, but y'all have known that for a long time.

HC Drink has some heavy lifting to do. I'm optimistic so far but it's super early. Show Me some wins because that's ALL that matters.

Mizzou won 68.8% of their games from 2005-14. He didnt get them a conference title, but that's pretty damn impressive considering their history before he got there LINK

I thought their 2013 team was legitimately really good. In 2014 it seemed like they just benefited from being in a bad division and Georgia also screwed around and lost some games they had no business losing.

In recent years, Florida and Georgia both got good again and Kentucky has gotten a lot better. So that has made Mizzou's path significantly more challenging.
