I just booked my AirBnB for this year's LSU-Missouri game. It looks like we're staying a little west of the campus and downtown (in between Stadium Blvd and West Blvd).

First, is that area safe? I can always cancel this Airbnb.

Next, if it's okay, can you recommend some good bars, restaurants, and sports bars? Right now, ages will range from 62-33. Any nostalgic must see/must go University Missouri restaurants or bars? How's the tailgating scene? Should we prepare to bring our own tent and equipment or, are the MU fans fairly hospitable or, is it more of a bar pre-game scene? Any unique Missouri traditions / events we should check out before the game?

It's Columbia, MO. It's going to be shitty anywhere you go.

You must have a burger a Booches. It opened in 1884 and has been in the same building since 1926. They didn't let women enter until the 1970s.

Be prepared to wait on football weekends. Pizza at Shakespeare's is also a must-do. Again, no reservations.

That area of town is perfectly fine. There will be less of a line at the Shakespeare's West location, which is near your Airbnb.

Area you are staying is fine. You will be staying close to CC's City Broiler, which is one of the finest steak places in the Midwest but is hard to get in on a football weekend. Shakespear's Pizza and Booche's for a burger are top-notch. Harpo's is the most famous bar in COMO but several good places in walking distance. Take a walk through the Quad and see the Columns. Fans will treat you well. Tailgating is spread out. No close parking to the stadium without a parking pass but lots of parking on Stadium Drive and Providence Road (south of the stadium). Hope you have a great trip.

Have a beer at the Heidelberg and then hit the quad. The Columns and Jessie Hall are pretty much a must see if on campus.

I'll second Ridgewalker's suggested venue...but change the order to a draw of beer, a shot of Jameson, and one of their great pork tenderloin sandwiches.

Repeat the beer and Jamey as needed.

Have fun!

I am not an expert on the area, but I have spent several weeks there over the years for meetings. I never felt like any area I was in was sketchy or unsafe. Especially compared to cities like Memphis, New Orleans, St. Louis or Atlanta. I can’t recommend a place to eat, because I never had anything memorable. There are, or at least were, several bars and restaurants in their downtown area. None were bad, but none were good enough to remember the names of them.

west of campus a mile or two should be very okay - actually very pretty old neighborhoods if I remember correctly

Excited to host you in CoMo!

The area you're staying is fine, no need to cancel anything.

Based on the age ranges you listed:
Bars - Shiloh, Flat Branch Pub, Booche's, International Tap House (ITAP), Log Boat Brewing, The Heidelburg
Restaurants - Addison's, Shakespeare's (overrated but iconic), Booche's, Flat Branch, CC's Broiler, Murry's
Sports Bars - See any of the above. Most of the local "sports bars" will be overrun by the college crowd (Harpo's, Big 12/Campus Bar and Grill, Willy's). Shiloh is a good lower key spot to watch games.

Tailgating scene is okay but scattered...it won't be your typical SEC tailgating scene but it gets the job done if you know the right lots to go to (others probably know better than me). MU fans are extremely hospitable, you should have zero problem making friends and being invited into a tailgate. I remember when UGA first came to town and most of their fans said we were too friendly .

You can check out the "Tiger Walk" before the game but it's not a must see IMO.

Enjoy the trip! I think you'll find CoMo exceeds your expectations. It's a great college town and early October should be great weather.

Their tailgating is what you would expect at Iowa State

I've eaten all over Columbia and never found anything that's can't-miss

I went there when we played back in 2021, had a great time. CoMo has some pretty good breweries; my favorites were Logboat and Bur Oak. Bur Oak was a bit outside of downtown but was worth the 15-20 min Uber ride.
