Leach's defense consistently ranks in the Top 25 for least amount of plays defended. His offense isn't a hurry up fast paced. The QB has to read the defense and call the play before the ball is snapped.

Crumedy starting over 5* Pickering?

Is he already a bust?

DC is Zach Arnett, comes from SDSU, runs 3-3-5.

Talented up front, but thin in the secondary and will probably be pretty bad this year. Arnett seems to be a talented young coach and should shore things up in a year or two.

Sounds like he should be running a 4-3 or 3-4 until he gets the skilled players he needs in the secondary. This looks like a recipe for a solid run game to open up the passing game after the safeties have to cheat up toward the line and leave the inexperienced corners on islands.

No, Crumedy has just made massive strides from reports in camp. Pickering isn’t doing a bad job. Speaks more to Crumedy’s work he’s put in.

Quit the opposite actually. You attack the 3-3-5 by throwing outside of the hash marks, and hopefully break tackles. Once you bust one on a broken assignment or tackle, DB’s will start to give cushion which will open the run game. I fully expect y’all to successfully nickel and dime us for the majority of the first half. LSU will come out of the gates throwing the ball. You don’t want to have a first time starter handing the ball off to start the season, O will get him reps early and often.

I don't know much about Furdge but I would suspect that Forbes takes over there before the end of the year. Forbes is very talented. DL is young but there's some talent there.

I don't anticipate them to be very good this year but I do suspect they could be in a year or two - I am not very familiar with the DC but at a glance I think they will be turnover driven - so I would anticipate that they will give up yards and points but focus on big plays and getting the ball back to the offense.

From what I can see and from my State friends:

- Zack Arnett is the DC. He had a top 5 defense last year. Oct 06, 2019 · SDSU ranks No. 1 in total defense (258.2), rushing defense (91.8) and passing defense (166.4), is tied for first with NDSU in scoring defense (11.6).

- Arnett is a guru of the 3-3-5. That's what he is going to run. State fans and SEC fans should remember that defense from Joe Lee Dunn (who invented the defense).

I remember the pain of it. Blitzes from any and every where. Very hard to prep for if done right. It's a hard hitting defense. It's extremely good against the spread too.

What I find interesting in that LEACH HIRED a 3-3-5 guy, is that some teams switched to it to stop the AIR RAID system.

- What they return? Yeah, they lost a lot. In the secondary, one of the starters transferred to FSU and is starting there. His back up opted out.

The DL seems to be very solid and has the needed depth.

LBs:

- Don't focus on the QB eye breaker Willie GAy, he only played like 4 games because he stayed in trouble. The guy behind him started a lot. Brule is a Safety converted to the LB. He'a all the talk right now.

- Tyrus Wheat was the #1 ILB out of JUCO.
- Jordan Davis is the #1 WDE out of Juco.

- Thompson... He had a great SO year, but that MSU defense last year was hampered by all the off field trouble and he looked slower. He should be a NFL guy.

- The Secondary is where the issues are. That's mainly due to the 3-3-5. They have to have great CBs. They have 1.

- CB Emerson proved himself last year. Played in all 13 games.

- FS Fred Peters- not much to go off of.

- Bulldog Murphey... NFL guy

- SS Craft. a IMG guy that has not seen the field. But he beat out everybody able and their DC said he earned his spot. But.. unknown.

- CB Furdge... Beats me. The total of information I can find is he is a SO.

I gotcha. I see in that 2019 recruiting class State signed three 4* or better DLinemen and none of them are starting. Is that concerning?

That is funny.

Their secondary isn't pathetic, but it is a weak spot. Nothing else is accurate.

quote:

Add to those facts that they have a new first-time DC (they will say Arnett led SDSU defense, but Rocky Long was the actual DC), and they are transitioning to a new scheme.

NOPE. He was moved to DC in 2018. Side note.. MSU hired him from Syracuse.

And they practice 1s vs 1s at MSU (fans can correct me if wrong but that's my understanding).

What you are suggesting is that the defense is in a different system somehow or another during camps. Who do you think was defending the Leach system all day at that fast pace?

Learn comprehension. I stated don't focus on him being gone because he hardly played last year due to off field issues.

I honestly think Thompson takes the next step and could be first or second team all SEC. His sophomore year was incredible and last year was such a bad year for team chemistry
