I can’t wait for the press conference when Coach survives this.

an aorta can tear - can an aortic valve "tear"?

Yeah, I wondered why they didn't take him to UAB.

Checked the scorecards for UMMC....pro-tip: you want to go to UAB or Vanderbilt, not UMMC.

UMMC
UAB
Vanderbilt

Normally they are either stenotic or have regurgitation. I suppose anything in the body can tear. The aortic valve is a tricuspid that looks like this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Aortic_valve.gif
Since it is at the top of left ventricle that pumps oxygenated blood to the body, imagine the regurgitation that would occur if only one cusp (leaflet) were to tear away? You are looking at the top of the valve.

If so, it's good they caught it and surgery for this is very effective. I hope he will still coach because he will need to keep his BP down.

Prayers, cause college football would really miss him as a whole. He's a treasure.

as much as I love having him coaching, he needs to hang it up and chill in Key West if he pulls through. Gameday with Leach would be amazing

I would say yes, if there was no anoxic brain injury. That 15-20 minute window has not been fully explained, i.e., pulseless, thready pulse, some blood pressure albeit being low due to low ejection fraction from a torn valve

If potentially no brain activity, would they have even transported him to another hospital? I bit into those rumors too but thinking this way may think it is a rumor.

More likely scenario is that it is an aortic dissection.

they would not have determined that in Starkville. That comes after everything is more stable.

Having gone through something similar his vale could have developed a leak due to a Harding of the seal which opens and closes with each heart beat. It gets progressively worse over time. Sounds like not enough blood flow and that caused him to pass out.

Just heard that our favorite pirate has a torn aortic valve. It’s extremely serious and dire. Keep praying for a miracle. I have no more info than that. SIAP but I am not searching through 1900 posts to find out.

It’s obvious that folks on here have no idea what they are talking about. Please stop posting rumors that are not true. It is obvious the Pirate had a medical condition worse then what you were posting.
