Just heard that our favorite pirate has a torn aortic valve. It’s extremely serious and dire.
Keep praying for a miracle.
I have no more info than that. SIAP but I am not searching through 1900 posts to find out.

Oh my god. If that's true, I believe in this miracle for sure now. Hang in there coach!

I take it that’s good news?

Relatively speaking, of course.

It’s way better than all of those rumors about him being brain dead.

Not really. But I've had a family member in this exact situation. It was a miracle then and I believe in it now.

In that same hospital none the less....

So yeah might sound weird and all but this has been odd for sure for me. Making me think of it.

My uncle also had this at same hospital and pulled through. Been few years back and still with us. It is a miracle considering how he was at the hospital.

I would say yes, if there was no anoxic brain injury. That 15-20 minute window has not been fully explained, i.e., pulseless, thready pulse, some blood pressure albeit being low due to low ejection fraction from a torn valve. What was occurring during that 20 minutes is crucial. Really, anything past 6 minutes with no blood flow to the brain is all it takes. And then there is the defibrillator at the 20 minute mark. That's part that is most telling to me if true.

If he was able to get treatment started quickly enough and depending on the severity of the aortic tear then there is a chance for him...

i.e. if it was a full tear he would essentially be dead before he he hit the floor as the aorta is the largest blood vessel in the human body..

There was a post yesterday full of details by a guy saying the brain dead rumors aren’t true

Hopefully OP has good info. That gives us more hope

I've heard of this but I don't know much about it.

Does anyone know....is this a genetic thing from birth? Is this something caused by lifestyle choices? If it is the latter, 61 still seems young to have this happen.

I am a Leach fan and I want to see him pull through. Also, his first interview after he leaves the hospital will be incredible.

My aortic valve was replaced two years ago. Titanium valve. My operation was at UAB. I pray he has the same outcome that I did.
Continue to pray believing in the miracle of life.
Smoking was 99% of my problem.

You're going to make it Coach Leach!

You're gonna live to be fricking 90!

I had a buddy recently who survived an aorta leakage. The science on this stuff has moved forward, per my limited pathetic knowledge

Hang in Coach!

Hope that's accurate. Medical science has come a long way and many things can be fixed these days, but not that. I like to think that the universe knows that it needs Mike Leach to be interviewed about his near death experience and is willing him to make it.

He doesn't need a miracle, just a good heart surgeon. My son had his aortic valve replaced when he was 22 (birth defect).

They said aortic VALVE. Big difference.

This is a nothing burger. If anything else that has been reported so far is true then this means nothing. Most likely, he had some kind of aortic valve disease found on an echo and someone is running with that information. But in this type of situation aortic valve disease is the least of his worries

Are you talking about an aortic aneurysm dissection or a torn aortic valve. OP is suggesting it's a valve.
