This is a hard day for me. I have friends/family that died in the line of duty but somehow I’m still alive. Doesn’t seem right

If this is a troll post you got me. It’s a time to reflect and celebrate the memories of those who died in uniform serving our great nation.
As a veteran, I celebrate and toast the memories of my fallen buddies with a very cold beer, great smoked ribs, and a good smoke.
If anyone is a twit, it’s you

I hate when people say happy Memorial Day or they have Memorial Day sales.

It's those who just view Memorial Day as a 3-day weekend.
For us (yes, I am a Gold Star Family member), it is far from a happy day/weekend.

To those who sacrificed their lives on the altar of freedom.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Theirs nothing happy about Memorial Day!
Do we all have to be miserable?
Or can we be thankful for the ultimate sacrifices others before us have made so we aren’t miserable?
Or do we need to argue over It like everything here?

I’m not. These soldiers didn’t give their lives for us to be miserable. They gave their lives to keep us from being miserable. Mission accomplished soldiers and thank you. This one’s for you…

You owe no one an apology. You meant well. Lost my grandfather in Korea long before I was born and I know your wishes were well meaning. Some just look for any reason to get butthurt

I genuinely hope that downvoters for a condolences to a Gold Star family member die a horrible and painful death after a lifetime of misery and personal tragedy. But, that may just be me.

I agree. It's important to remember the reason for the day and give the remberance it deserves. But, just as important to recall that none of those lost would want it to be another sad memorial. They'd all want to be here with us downing grilled food and beers and laughing with friends and family.
No reason it can't be happy. Just acknowledge those who made it happen. If you know them, speak their names, tell their stories and keep their memories alive. If you don't, pause for a moment and reflect on what is possible because of those who sacrificed on our behalf.

It's a happy Memorial Day because those veterans sacrificed their lives so we can enjoy our freedoms. We honor them because they laid down their lives for the American dream.
How about you have some respect you fake arse fricking cadet
