It's funny how bamahaters keep using the Bama doesn't care about bball angle.. we always have.. and we don't try to compare it to football like outsiders want to think we do. Bama is the #2 winning program in sec history... we didn't just luck up on that.
Grant didn't run Bama in the ground either he just wasn't elite. BAMA came 1 win from have 4 of 5 20 win seasons.... and had the 3rd most wins of all SEC teams... this isn't a garbage program like most of you have had... it just underachieved.
Now we have a coach that will get the hype and attention needed to get us to another level in recruiting and on the court. Recruits are already buzzing about it and he hasn't even had a presser yet. Have fun trying to down this hire but this is a FAR more effective hire than Marshall would have been.

I can subscribe to your comments, TT. Since Bama and Battle painted themselves into a corner with the Marshall debacle, I think it's decent comeback.
You can't straight up compare Marshall to avery, which helps both Battle and Avery.
Could he turn out to be great? Possibly.
Could he flounder around and not adapt to college? Possibly.
We'll just have to wait and see.
It would be interesting to see Avery succeed here, then see if he'd entertain the NBA again.

i'm calling it now: johnson will be a colossal failure of a COLLEGE coach and will be fired within three seasons. maybe even two.

Something not mentioned about AJ. He has an inroad to the AAU coach in Texas. Something our last coach didn't pursue. And something that may help with recruiting .
And I will be at the first pre-season game he coaches at CC.

The best part of Avery Johnson to Bama is it keeps him from screwing up the Pels. That was a nightmare scenario for most fans I think.
