timing was terrible because people are thinking UF and UK will come available.

I keep seeing this. It doesn't make since. Why did the Tide have to "act quick" in regards to the hire?

SURELY no one believes UF or UK would have made a run at an overrated Avery Johnson?

This whole line of thinking is hilarious. So let's say you could have Phil Jackson/Larry Brown/Mike Krzyzewski/Tom Izzo, etc. because Bama would pay him $20 million a year (a pure money grab). Let's also say that Rick Ray really, really wants the head job at Bama. You would hire Rick Ray, wouldn't you?

WTF are you babbling about?

Your stupid, results-oriented reasoning that is pretty hilarious in its ineptitude.

Avery Johnson's lack of experience is a big concern, and not just from the perspective of being an "NBA" guy, as even most NBA guys have been associated with major programs and seen how things run from the inside as either players or young assistants.

Avery Johnson did not even play at a big program. He played Juco ball, Division II, and SWAC ball. He has no idea what goes on in a major college basketball program except from the outside.

In there world money is only thing. Not program tradition or the fact they are not a elite program. The funny part is they think there on the same leval as Kentucky.

No, we don't. If you think any Bama fans believe that, than you are incredible easy to troll, and should probably stop eating those paint chips.

I think Bama fans are aware of the potential we have for success in basketball. And this doesn't just Bama, but all SEC schools. With the SEC network, every team (except maybe Kentucky) has unprecedented basketball exposure. That network needs a strong basketball product to be successful for a majority of the year. Any program that isn't taking advantage of that, is flat out incompetent.

Aside from Kentucky, SEC basketball is the wild west. Any school willing that willing to make the investment, could turn into a basketball powerhouse. Just don't be scared little bitches, and spend cash like new money should.

I'm thrilled that our administration realized this, and is being proactive to be successful.

One thing is definitely true. If Avery is anywhere near as bad as your grammar then we are screwed.

It's was really a home run hire many people don't realize the excitement he will bring to the alabama program

Thanks for posting this. Johnson brings energy, excitment and enthusiasm that is sorely needed to this program.

If he can draw up a NBA gameplan and coach the pro's then why can't he handle college ball?

He's never coached in college, but who's to say he can't hire a staff that has knowledge and experience in recruiting high school/AAU talent?

we'll see. dealing with college players (kids) is much different than dealing with pros.

i don't see him being successful at all, but the jury is out.

So did Grant. Isn't that exactly why Alabama forced out one of its own to hire him? I think saying he brings energy etc. is begging the real question. Any new coach brings that. New is exciting.

Energy, excitement, and enthusiasm? no. he brought a new face to the program and a change in philosophy, as well as the hope that he could build on his success at VCU when given more resources. His teams were boring to watch and never got it done against top flight competition.

no. Bama didn't "force out" one if its own. Gottried had gotten complacent since the Elite Eight run and started to screw around with co-eds. He had to go.

Only time will tell if any hires will work out.
Even Roy Williams at UNC has to be in question, regardless of the hype initially.

wat

He coached Kansas for 15 years and did an excellent job. there's pretty much zero parallels between UNC poaching Williams from Kansas and Alabama hiring Johnson

I wouldn't say home run, but definitely intriguing. I think he can coach but it's "wait and see" on the rest.

The guy was given an award that basically said "you were the best basketball coach on the planet this season". I see him doing OK.

The rest of the national media response will surely make you people feel silly.

The national media are the same morons that would go onto NBA broadcasts and claim that the Dallas Mavericks werea run and gun team under Avery when in reality they were one of the slowest most plodding offenses in the league under him.

Why should I feel silly when I know for a fact the vast majority have no fricking clue what they are talking about in regards to his coaching?

Stephen A Smith said bammer was a dog shite program and the fact AJ had to settle for such a job shows the lack of opportunities available to black coaches
