enjoy, Aggies. Mediocre arm, mediocre accuracy, and mediocre speed. The most you can say is that he's tough and has a talented little brother. Can't wait to see him in Jimbo's system.

Did we mention his dad won a super bowl?

He should be a great back-up and is absolutely a step up from our last backup...Zalcada the head case.

I don't expect to see much of Max other than clean up duty. And he may be the 3rd string QB after Haynes and Weigman.

In a matter of minutes I went from reading this
quote:

Have at it motherfrickers. And get to hear about his fricking super bowl winning dad every time his lame arse appears on tv.

to this
quote:

The assumption is that the brothers, whose father is Super Bowl winning quarterback Brad Johnson, want to play together, which makes the Aggies the favorites to land Max Johnson.

Timing is everything.

Is LSU quarterback Max Johnson heading to Texas A&M? (Houston Chronicle)

Right now, however, this is the reality for the Gator Bowl:

Don't leave out the possibility he starts. I'm sure he wants the NFL and he has to start to do that.

If I read correctly, a redshirt freshman QB (like Haynes King) could be eligible for a medical redshirt and thus a sixth year of eligibility. This QB stuff in Aggieland will get interesting going forward.

Somebody gonna transfer.

Max isn't transferring to be a backup.

That would go against everything the Johnson's have said and done.

Take a guess as to who the quarterbacks are.

Now do those stats without Boutte in the mix. Seriously Max's product was horrific without Boutte on the field.

Unless Haynes King breaks his leg at the beginning of the season again, and this kid suddenly develops a bad case of The Yips, Max Johnson will have to work his tail off to snag the starting QB role.

Doesn't make sense for either side

Makes perfect sense from an A&M perspective, our backup QB with some experience just entered the transfer portal, so we need to find a backup QB with some SEC experience in case King gets hurt again and we aren't comfortable throwing Weigman into a live game yet.

If Max thinks Jimbo can help him develop then it makes sense from his perspective too.

Except Max isn't transferring to be a backup.

It's almost certain that if Max signs with Aggie, then certain promises have been made. Whether those promises are delivered on is another question.

I think it's possible King hits the portal if Max comes, probably during the spring sometime.

Development does Max no good if he isn't playing

Mond had Christian Kirk in year 1. Think about that for a second.

Absolutely not, the only thing that would be 'promised' is a true qb competition, like the one we had to start this season.

Wrong, development is more important than just playing. If the kid is just after playing time then transfer to Vandy or stay at LSU. Development while playing in big games is ideal, but development while being an injury away from the starting role is very valuable and something he wasn't getting at LSU

You have absolutely no way of knowing this.

He wasn't getting developed at LSU but was clearly better than a quarterback that Jimbo has been "developing" for 3 years?

Just because he is not white, doesn't mean he is a running QB. Did you see mond try to scramble?

Fair point.
Same could be said for the alternate view.

Let’s be clear on what this is. Max a depth piece. Sure, they’ll open up the starting QB competition, but it will be truly between King & Weigman. Last year we only had 2 QBs on scholarship and it was a disaster. We’ll have 3 in ‘22. Max represents an upgrade from Calzada though. He does have that going for him.

This is a dumb take.

Max could start at multiple P5 schools and isn't coming to sit on your bench.

I think King is unofficially getting processed here, the ball is in his court on whether he wants to compete or not.

Max has a decent body of work over two seasons at LSU and could vault himself into the NFL with a decent year at A&M which gives the team to your 5 star in 2023.
