He's put up better numbers than Mond did as a FR/SO

Ehh... only if you completely ignore Mond's ability to run the ball and even then they are pretty close.

He doesn't have Calzada's bazooka of an arm either.

His biggest plus over both is his higher accuracy rate though there's no guarantee he'd replicate that in Jimbo's system.

W/o going back and watching every game again I'd say that he's probably better than Calzada as an overall player and a bit worse overall than Mond. Either way unless King transfers out too I doubt he wins the starting gig.

this move makes no sense. why not go somewhere where he can be the sure starter?

Have at it motherfrickers. And get to hear about his fricking super bowl winning dad every time his lame arse appears on tv.

Eh I’d rather have accuracy than scrambling or a bazooka arm 10 times out of 10

The whole reason he's transferring to TAMU is so he doesn't have to get hit by our d line again.

He will be amazed at having people in front of him that can actually do things like block people.

Doesn't make sense for either side unless they're expecting King to transfer.

Glad to have him. He got blasted by our D line for two years and still comes out firing and on the numbers.

He won’t be a superstar but he’s tough and can win you a game

Maybe Jimbo can get him to stop holding onto the ball. Never have I yelled “throw the ball” more than I have this season

So you're saying we'll take two Johnsons at once?

Seems something you're used to.

Such a strange move. He seems like a good kid and I expected him to go somewhere he would have a better chance of starting. I find it unlikely that he'll ever start there.. Yall have King, Weigman, and then Holstein lined up.

Max will be a good backup to have for King until Weigman takes over.

To be fair, no one really knows how good King is so it's possible that Johnson could beat him out.

Neither really seem like ideal fits for Jimbo's system though.

Jimbo prefers mobile QBs, and I was somewhat surprised by Johnson’s scrambling ability. He is a good fit for the offense.

King is faster and really mobile, but has less experience now. I can see legit QB competition. But from that aspect it makes sense for Johnson.

If he won’t tackle himself, then he’s a step up from Calzada on third downs.

Even though the Aggies have young four or five star QBs that have potential, they either have very little or no experience on the field. They are unproven. And it make sense that Jimbo signs an experienced QB who has. This does a few things for Max:
Takes him away from the insanity that is Baton Rouge and rabid fans perpetually stuck in 2019. Protects his little brother from the same insanity. Puts him under the tutelage of the QB whisperer.

He likely has a good shot at starting.

Great get for A&M. He could be the difference maker for Jimbo.

Jimbo prefers mobile quarterbacks then rarely utilizes their legs and instead asks them to be dropback passers.

He's done that for years and it's very odd.

So yes, Johnson and King do fit what Jimbo "wants" but they don't fit what he does on the field.

What would be ideal?

I bet this all stems from Jimbo overhearing and misinterpreting a conversation between two Aggie boosters about how much they love max johnson, can't get enough of max johnson, and would give anything to have max johnson right now.
