Matt Stafford's recruitment

Watching the Lions made me wonder how he ended up at UGa. Obviously, UGa is/was a premier program at the time of his recruitment, but were there other factors at play (I.e. Were Texas and A&M in on other big time QBs? Or was he simply enamored with UGa?) Hard to believe a huge arm like that was allowed to escape Big12 country.

He had some seriosu family connections to UGA, I believe

UT was loaded at QB, and he wanted to play asap.

Pretty sure his parents or family were affiliated with the school somehow. We had Fran IIRC so I doubt he wanted to come run the option

He was all UGA from the beginning. He had literally no competition to worry about. Joe T fricking sucked.

Pro style offense, that is all.

Pretty similar to Jacob Eason's current recruitment. Top flight pro style QB wanted to play for a top flight pro style offense.

Doubt A&M was much of a factor at all

I remember in late 05 or early 06 when Stafford some random guy from Southlake Carroll picked an argument with me because I was from Hoover about Stafford being better than John Parker Wilson (obviously true) and his delusional of Southlake Carroll being better than Hoover (we had Two-A-Days at the time and were targets)
That and him being a 5* are my recollections of his recruitment.

Lots of reasons.
He fit in well with UGA kids (came from highland park), they have consistent prolific pro style offense, hot chicks, cool city, and had good offensive weapons coming in with him.
Believe he had friend and family connections there but that was just icing on cake I believe.

He was a buddy of mine. He had a lot of family & friend connections there and Georgia was a good program at the time. He never seriously considered anywhere else.

The team with two QBs starting in the NFL right now? That A&M?

Realize the offense and team A&M had at the time?

I believe his dad attended graduate school at Georgia

They finished USA Today #1 in 04 and 06 I think. Won 5A 04-06. Didn't lose a game During that time period. They were fa sho better

You're not still smarting over those arse whippings in 2011 and 2012 are you? Nevertheless, congrats on your 9 win season. Maybe one day Hugh Freeze will get you to that 10 win benchmark that Mark Richt averages over his 14 seasons as a head coach.

His sister also went to UGA, but I can't recall is she started before or after him. I also seem to remember his father was friends with Richt from his FSU days. There was at least some connection between the two, I am pretty sure.
