Aside from the playoff teams because they’re in it to win it, are opt ins/outs to play a bowl game a useful metric for potential players to judge who of the field has a good program culture of team and family and of course winning (You got to win your bowl game) to transfer ?

Shannon Sharpe and Ochocinco were talking about this in their podcast, saying with players getting paid, revenue coming, and the multi million dollar insurance you can get for athletes to suit up, they don’t understand how players can opt out going forward.

Is getting injured in a meaningless bowl game a good investment in one's future, assuming a short but lucrative career in the NFL is on the horizon?

Teams that don't have mass holdouts and play hard and take the games seriously destroy the whole narrative.
Then you have the programs that don't have their shite sorted out that then claim.....meaningless exhibition. Games mean nothing.
Yeah, right.
If a game means nothing to your players and coaches then your program is falling apart.

Yes it is a clear metric to portal players and even high school players and their moms and dads who are making the biggest decisions of their life. Program culture is a solid metric. What I like about it is, it is trueness backed up by action. That it is hard to buy.

They are meaningless. Win or lose.

So is every other football game.

Is signing and investing a few hundred thousand dollars on an 18 year old unproven kid who may be a bust a good investment for a school if the kid will not play in the school’s bowl game?
Lots of things will be examined in the coming years.

On the flip side, and I don’t want this to sound like a moral victory, but we are suiting up basically our 2nd Teams for the bowl season. Other conferences don’t have the luxury for their nfl talent to opt out. We get stuck playing teams with no opt outs. The solution? Our 2nd teams need to start showing up and giving teams the business again. Bc frick personnel context, people only remember the records.
The luxury of having the most players drafted every year is a constrain on a true bowl performance reflective to how our seasons went unless you’re in the playoffs.

What if you have both? Players opting to play for their teammates that are surely going to be in the NFL. That’s a good metric I think.

Well honestly outside of playoffs I have to say they are and while I appreciate the Alabama players playing I think about Jalen Milroe. Is there any doubt he hurt himself in the draft? Campbell was injured during bowl game and had a shoulder sling in sideline. Now I don’t know severity of his injury but it could have been bad.

Yeah get that. The will to do it anyway for team and brotherhood is pretty throw back to our ancestors though and I dig that.

Anyone who doesn’t enjoy the bowl games doesn’t really love college football. How can you not love them?
IT’S MORE COLLEGE FOOTBALL!!!
I mean, here we are with only a a small handful of games left before enter the EIGHT MONTH long drought were we have no college football whatsoever.
Who wants that?!?

I enjoyed this bowl game, we’ve had teams before opt outs whose players didn’t want to be there and looked like crap. This team had at least a dozen who didn’t play but the ones who wanted it did and put on a good show.
The game didn’t mean anything on a grand scale but was I enjoyed watching it.
There have been many good competitive games this year.

Remember when you were a little kid at Six Flags and you got to ride the roller coaster? It was amazing, but it was over too fast. If you were lucky, you could talk your dad into riding it again with you - but the lines were so damn long so that was the trade-off.
But boy it was great, right?
Now imagine they stuck you on the roller coaster and made you ride it over and over from open to close, never getting off.
This is what college football has done.

You could apply this to a team that starts 0-3. Aren't all games beyond that basically "meaningless"?
If you're getting paid to play, play. If you're worried about injuries, go play pickle ball.
