"Mulkey apparently wanted to use Koval and Minaeva as 'ambassadors' to help mend fences in a sign of unity by having the two share a locker room."
Mistake by Mulkey. She should have consulted Koval before trying to force that upon her.

From what I understand, she did consult Koval quite a bit. At the end of the day, players don't decide who is on the roster, coaches do. Kim decided the Russian was more valuable than the Ukrainian if it came to that. Kim didn't choose to dimiss anyone from the team, Koval decided that on her own.

Coach Mulkey said that she & Koval "spoke at length" before anything reached the point of this Russian girl being offered.

Kim Mulkey did discuss the subject with Koval, but that wouldn’t fit the narrative.
It couldn’t be less surprising to see the rantards rallying around a country that’s conned tax payers out of hundreds of billions of dollars and turning a nothing burger into a geopolitical debate.

I'm not sure that her discussing it with Koval and proceeding to recruit the player anyways is any better of a narrative. If anything, Mulkey pretending she didn't even think of the war would have made her look smarter than suggesting the two playing together could have an impact on ending the war. Truly detached from reality.

She did know that. She talked to Koval quite a bit to try to convince her to stay. At the end of the day her job is to make LSU the best team it can be. She signed the Russioan with teh intention of having 2 bigs knowing that it might and probably would make Koval leave the team. Its not because she wanted Koval gone but she perceives the Russian to be better.

I get that, but it crosses the line when you want the existing player to be more than a player and become an ambassador between two war torn countries and not for basketball. Basically, she stuck her nose in something that was none of her business.
