LSU’s humiliating home loss to South Carolina on Tuesday was not only a blow to their NCAA Tourney hopes, it also put them below .500 all-time in SEC play.
LSU Basketball shot out the gate hot after the formation of the SEC in 1933. By 1935, LSU had won a regular season SEC Title and had won 79.2% of its games in those first three seasons.
The program then slowly deteriorated, finally falling below .500 during the 1973-1974 season and reaching a program low at the end of the 1977 season. LSU sat at 314-332 (.486) at that point, but the great Dale Brown turned things around and quickly got the program back up above .500 again during the 1980 season.
LSU would again peak in 1993… reaching another high water mark of 500-430 (.538) all-time in SEC play. Since then it has been another slow decline downwards.
Now, as it stands through two games this season, LSU sits at 734-735 all-time in SEC play (.4987).
Congrats to LSU!
Georgia Tech (.493), Auburn (.466), Mississippi State (.437), Tulane (.437), Georgia (.403), South Carolina (.400), Ole Miss (.384), Missouri (.368), Oklahoma (.350), Texas (.300), and Sewanee (.038) welcome you to the bottom dwelling group.

They aren’t that much better when it comes to football. Their all time SEC winning percentage in football is around .590.

I’m a nerd and have a spreadsheet that I update every week or so during the season.

Wade Houston & Kevin O’Neal left with a better sec records than the LSU coach will.

Weird how, if in the 90s you would tell people Auburn would be one of the better programs in the SEC now and LSU one of the worst, people would - understandably - think you were crazy.

its les miles, O's and Frank Wilson's fault!!! and oh, Pete Golding's too!

LSU either has a very good team for a short period of time or a bad-to-mediocre team for extended periods of time. Our highs are pretty damn high, our lows are pretty damn low and more extensive periods.

LSU spent all their money on the wrong sport.

I think we led by 28 at one point... and LSU got it down under two digits. Embarrassing all around. We absolutely suck and fully expected us to blow that game and lose. We may only end up with 2 or 3 conference wins again... at least we can't go 0-fer now.

We won the national title in 94. We did not win the SEC tourney that year.

I think LSU is 2-0 if the point guard was not out, but that's the breaks.

Kind of an odd thread to start when OP's team has a worse conference winning percentage all time than LSU and also less historic prestige. I think Auburn has something like 20 or 21 losing seasons in conference play since the 1991-92 expansion.
But you do you.
