Starkville High and Oxford High are playing in the 6A semifinals tonight. They hate each other too.
Starkville won the regular season rivalry game.

Hopefully oxford high is plenty pissed off.
How many A’s are there in Mississippi? I’m surprised those schools are both 6A

6A is the largest classification.

Tell Oxford not to hike on the field.

David Cutcliffe's son is Oxford High's head coach.
Looks like OHS beat South Panola last week. Impressive...

I actually find that pretty cool. Do they really call it the little Egg Bowl.
Sorry I’m several states away don’t mean to sound ignorant just curious.

Indeed.

Oxford High will figure out a way to piss the game away.

Yes, but it is a relatively recent thing. Oxford used to be a division below the large schools like Tupelo, Starkville, and South Panola.
The Little Egg Bowl didn't become a thing until Oxford started playing Starkville regularly.
Oxford's traditional rival is the county school, Lafayette.

That pic of Plumlee vs Shrader was a perfect graphic for the Egg Bowl and is a perfect analogue to the Chargers vs the 'Dores rivalry.
That said, all of the Lafayette Co residents are still emblematic of UM to the surrounding counties. My oldest kids went to SPHS when I worked for UM. They might as well have been on the other side of the moon from Oxford and all of Lafayette County.

Thanks I find that cool.
Went to college long long time ago with some guys from the Mississippi Junior College system. One ended up as an assistant at Tupelo for a while. I have had a couple kids go to Northeast and Jones.
Always find it interesting how other states high school football is set up

Starkville won the earlier game at their place 42-17 I believe. Jumped out quick 21-0 and then Oxford cut to 21-17 before Starkville added 21 in the 4th quarter as well. The Chargers are definitely better coached while the Jackets have more talent. Oxford has only allowed 8.6 points per game since that week two loss.

There’s more elite talent at Starkville High than MSU.

Well again excuse me for not knowing but I have always thought the state of Mississippi had a lot of high school talent. I mean I played with some good athletes from Mississippi yeah that was forever ago at a small college. But I just always felt some good players from that state.

Not very much consolidated talent. West Point is probably the state's best team and they are 5A. Starkville, South Panola, Meridian, Hatteisburg, Horn Lake, etc. kind of spread the talent. Madison Central and the other Jackson schools have never really been more than finesse schools throughout time. And the coast just does weird shite all the time.

Per capita, they historically are top 3 to top 5 in producing pro level talent in the Big 3 sports. If their education levels were better, it would be one of the hottest recruiting beds in the country. Very talented athletes, but risky school investments. Their Junior College teams are fricking talent farms.
