College Football Head Coaches: Ranking All 130 Seasons 2019

quote:

10. Mark Stoops, Kentucky 2017 Final Coach Ranking: 75 2018 Final Coach Ranking: 1 2019 Record: 8-5 The guy lost his heart-and-soul guys – Benny Snell and Josh Allen – from the great 2018 team. He lost starting quarterback Terry Wilson almost right out of the gate, had to reconfigure things after having issues getting the offense going, and his team still rolled up an eight-win season with five wins in the last six games with a wide receiver playing quarterback as, effectively, a running back. His team overcame the in-season adversity and blew out rival Louisville, won the Belk Bowl over Virginia Tech.

quote:

1. Ed Orgeron, LSU 2017 Final Coach Ranking: 45 2018 Final Coach Ranking: 7 2019 Record: 15-0 His assistants might have received most of the credit, but Orgeron is an elite recruiter, phenomenal line coach, and was a perfect figurehead for one of the greatest seasons of all-time. It wasn’t just a 15-0 national championship season; it was a dominant one with road wins at Alabama and Texas, and victories over Florida, Auburn, Texas A&M, Georgia, Oklahoma, and of course, for the whole ball of wax against Clemson. Orgeron was the tone-setter … “Geaux Tigers.”

Throwing some flames to get this thread started.

quote:

64. Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M 2017 Final Coach Ranking: 130 2018 Final Coach Ranking: 25 2019 Record: 8-5 Yeah, the schedule was a killer with LSU, Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Auburn to deal with, but A&M is supposed to be good enough under Fisher to start winning the big ones. 8-5 wasn’t bad, but there weren’t any surprises or upsets.

quote:

48. Nick Saban, Alabama 2017 Final Coach Ranking: 10 2018 Final Coach Ranking: 21 2019 Record: 11-2 Of course he’s still one of the best coaches in college football, but this was a two-game regular season, and his team lost both of them. Did Alabama beat anyone who was all that great? Not until the Citrus Bowl against Michigan. The best regular season win was over Texas A&M. The second-best was over Tennessee. Yippee.

I look forward to the....

Here we go!

Look at the top 10 names. This was not a serious list.

This isn't the "best coaches" ranking.
It's going by strength if schedule in a single year...it's a "strength of schedule ranking for 2019."

It’s a list of which coaches did the best job in 2019. Not sure why it isn’t “serious”.

Hard to argue, although Saban is clearly always in the top 3.

It’s looking at the 2019 season. There was no doubt O was the best last season.

Saban is way too low though
