Les Miles' negative recruitment of Bama signee Scott Lashley

From an interview with SEC Country.
Q: How much negative recruiting was out there?
Lashley: There was tons of that. A lot of it came from the fans, but some from the coaches, too. We went to Coach Les Miles’ house on my official visit there and he was like — he didn’t say Alabama by name, but what he was saying added up to be Alabama. He was just talking about how there is a battle between the quarterbacks right now. He was saying how they are losing big-time players on defense, so it’s not going to be the same. He told me how Alabama had two early enrollee offensive tackles. Your chances may be slim to none. He didn’t say Alabama, but you could figure out which school he was talking about.
The worst thing I heard from a coach was that if I didn’t attend their school, I would not make it to the NFL. I showed my utmost respect when he said that and listened to what else he had to say, but the next day, I told him that I didn’t think their college was the best place for me. That was the last conversation I had with him. (He declined to say which coach or school said this.)

Nothing new, I'd have to imagine most every program negative recruits the best teams in the country.

Alabama owns Coach Smiles' soul. This is news to no one, least of all LSU fans. Our spirits are broken. Take your provocative posts elsewhere.

It's recruiting. You think Nick or any other SEC coach doesn't do the same?

So a coach explaining why a kid has better chances to play early at his school in comparison to another school is somehow new? I don't even consider that negative recruiting. Coaches try to sell their school and compare it to other options the kid has.
Big deal
Big deal

Everyone negatively recruits, even your beloved Crimson Tide.

No ma'am. We do no such thing.

Spare me. Whether or not he should have said that is irrelevant. If there were an article about Sabes doing that, yall would have a 10 page post about it.

Haha..well I wouldn't say that, because unless he just flounders at Bama, he'll get drafted. He's an OT that's athletic, that's rare enough.

If that's the worse thing Miles said then he doesn't do enough negative recruitment.
That was piddly shite compared to what other coaches are telling kids.

That's not really all that bad. I mean, yeah, it's technically negative recruiting, but it's pretty straightforward information. The worst of it was the implication that the kid wasn't good enough to play at Bama, which is just as likely to backfire as it is to help.
One of the reasons I respect Saban is that I don't believe for a moment he gets into negative recruiting, but if the worst anyone can say about Miles is the above, he's probably better than most head coaches in that regard.
