LSU's premature firing of Les Miles will cost the Tigers in the long run

quote:

If anything, the removal of Miles has made LSU a distraction for the coaches it might covet. Jimbo Fisher? Tom Herman? If Miles were in the job muddling his way toward an 8-4 season, it would be fairly obvious the Tigers would be moving on at the end of the year. There might be speculative columns and talk show discussions that would be meagerly disruptive for Fisher at Florida State or Herman at Houston, particularly in the area of recruiting.

Now? Now reporters have a reason to ask these coaches at every press conference whether they might have some interest in LSU. A denial is met with skepticism. A non-denial denial is even more dangerous. If the season develops less successfully than anticipated, the coach might be blamed for concentrating more on his future than his present.

It will be a pain in the behind for each coach until LSU at last hires one of them or neither. Creating this level of distraction does nothing to endear the candidate to the potential employer. Missouri coach Mike Alden once told the Kansas City Star’s Blair Kerkhoff he declined to fire Larry Smith during the season because he believed it would damage his pursuit of Gary Pinkel, then winning big at Toledo. Pinkel took the Mizzou job and reached nine consecutive bowl games.

No he didn't.

He got fired for years of underachieving with extremely talented and experienced laden teams and for refusing to adjust his offense.

We were a middle of the road SEC team for a while despite having top 2 talent in the league.

He should have been fired. We just should have hired someone else to be our coach.

ETA:

Last year we returned the most experience in the country and our team looked absolutely lost on offense. We couldn't score at all.

Honestly, if Les had just fired Cameron (which apparently he as asked to do and refused), and let Ensminger call the plays without meddling, he'd still have his job.

I feel sorry for LSU fans. They have a dumbass AD who gave the job(and huge buyout) to a proven loser. Alleva and O are going to drive that program to Dooley level UT.

It'll never get that bad (in terms of program destruction) because recruiting won't be horrendous. We have unreal instate talent, a very profitable athletic department, etc.

One good head coach would right the ship in year 1.

Entitlement leads to unrealistic expectation.

Unrealistic expectation leads to irrational decision making.

Irrational decision making leads to anger.

Anger leads to hate.

Hate leads to suffering.

Why do you feel bad for them? They WANTED Les fired. Alleva listened to their dumbasses and didn't have a plan in place to replace him with a competent coach.

I honestly think in 5 years Joe Alleva and Ed Orgeron won't be able to come back to LSU in any capacity for the rest of their lives.

Famous last words. That kind of thinking also landed LSU in this mess. I thought O could succeed in that environment. Tennessee's recruiting wasn't bad and you must not remember when Louisiana kids were leaving the state to go play at FSU or UC Boulder because it was bad.

And so far, you're batting o fer 1 finding that one. It also only takes 1 "good" coach to sink a ship for a few years.

L6U better get a new AD before they fire O.

I can see the one you have now hiring Bert away from Pigville for 8 years 6.5 mill a year and 35mil buy out.

He is proven.

Firing Less was a beautiful thing to be sure.
Hiring O was about as ugly a thing that you could think of.

Looks like you missed the entire point of that article.

Firing Les isn't the problem. It's how LSU did it. That article argues the main reason LSU wasn't able to snag any of the big name coaches they wanted was b/c they flipped their shite and fired Les after losing to two good teams. Too many of the candidates saw how you treated Les and told Alleva to piss off.

Also, y'all can try to pin this all on Alleva if you want but deep down you all know this is b/c certain big money LSU boosters got their panties in a wad after Auburn. They thought it was the right time to swing their dicks around and unfortunately for LSU they got those dicks caught in a mouse trap.

Hell, LSU is repeating the same mistake all over with Coach O. What kick arse coach is going to want to come with the way you people treat your staff? You're going to have to hire an underqualified young coach w/moderate success, a retread who knows he'll never get a better offer, or a dirty coach who already has the NCAA on his arse at the rate you're going.

Mark Hudspeth come on down!
