Why in frick did we allow an Institution so evil to hang around for 350 years give or take?
Because as a society, we get better with time. What was viewed as moral and immoral 150 years ago, 300 years ago, 500 years ago, etc is not consistent over time. People are a product of the society in which they are born and raised, not a product of an evolving society, where values change over time. If you try to cast people as evil for things that were not thought to be evil when they lived, then we may as well demonize the entire history of civilization....then in 100 years the society in which we lived now will be demonized for something we accept as well and good but may not be in the future. Is that what you really want?

Lattimore and Jeffrey just checked the box to confirm their contribution to the black struggle.
Now they can back to living their lives as the upper 1%
What makes you think Lattimore is in the upper 1%?

nominated Thurgood Marshall to succeed Tom Clark as on the SCOTUS
The president nominates Justices.
Thurmond didn’t even vote yes to confirm him.
He was the only republican to vote against his confirmation.

Have you lost your fricking mind?
Many people knew that slavery and the follow up to slavery, Jim Crow Laws, were evil, and they knew it in the Era when those evils occurred
To hint that those acts were not considered evil "back in their day" , so we should leave up statues and monuments to dead, loser, racist , confederate assholes is beyond laughable

I said this the other week, prepare for every building at USC to be renamed.
I'd would hate that.
But I'm waiting for someone to bring up Thomas Cooper, Augustus Longstreet, Joseph LeConte, and so on and so on...
John and Edward Rutledge (Rutledge Chapel, the oldest building on campus I believe, 1805(?)) are the big ones. They owned slaves, Edward signed the Declaration of Independence and John was the country's 2nd Chief Justice.

You know who liked Southern Segregation? Hint, it was not Bad Orange Man.

quote:
In November 1976, at the height of Delaware’s decades-long fight over desegregation in schools, Sen. Joe Biden spoke to a class of about 120 schoolchildren from Newark, DE, who were visiting Capitol Hill. As the Wilmington Evening Journal reported the following day, Biden told the all-white crowd of fifth-graders, chaperones, and onlookers: “Black kids don’t want to go to your school any more than you want to go to their school.”
quote:
Though he still polls at the top of the crowded Democratic field, Biden saw his standing slip following his first debate appearance in which California Senator Kamala Harris confronted him over racial issues.
She accused him of opposing the busing of black students to schools in white neighborhoods during the 1970s as part of desegregation efforts, a standout moment during the debates which stretched over two nights.

Their time is coming
Right now we're getting rid of the guys where it is real easy to identify them as racist, loser, bigoted, rebel scum
The borderline guys will yake some debate, but those 10 bases named for confederates and guys like r e lee and the rest of his confederate losers, those guys are real easy to snatch their statues down
The Statues coming down and the bldgs that are getting renamed, those guys aren't even borderline, they never should have been honored in the first place
We can go slowly and debate the borderline guys, but you're wasting your time defending racist scum and rebel scum, their shyt comes down forthwith, no questions asked

Nope. You have. But keep on with your virtue signaling. It's really been beneficial to the cause
But if the statues and building names in southern states really bother you that much (they don't), you're more than welcome to leave.
