What about the statues and monuments of antiquity that were built by slaves and stand as trophies to rulers and empires who committed unspeakable tragedies?

There is a difference between the coliseum as a historical sight and a monument build in the 1950s to honor The President of the Confederacy.

There is no historical value to the statue itself.

And I’ve said multiple times I am Not for tearing down every statue. Just like I am Not for tearing down plantation homes.

It’s the difference between destroying the Mona Lisa and a print of the Mona Lisa.

So basically erase almost our entire history from the founding of this country through the Civil Rights Act of 1968?

MLK was a homophobe and an alleged rapist. Time for him to go. The Republican Party in 1860 supported deporting African slaves back to Africa. There goes Lincoln. Where does it end? Where does it stop?

How about we just take down the statues honoring traitors to our country who formed a government whose sole purpose was to keep slaves? Then we can have a discussion about other people.

The genius of Strom on the personal level was that he LOVED people (sometimes too much lol). He was a true gentleman and a gifted conversationalist. He would have been the best insurance salesman in history. He told me a long story about his Mother having Louisiana family roots that I was never able to verify. That he was "on the wrong side of history" speaks to the state of The Democratic Party of Strom's youth that wanted to preserve slavery, established Jim Crow, founded the KKK, etc. That he supported Democratic Party policies like that is just what it meant to be a Democrat of his era. You know, like Robert Byrd, Former KKK leader, Democratic Senate Majority leader less than a generation ago. Half of West Virginia is named after him.

How does renaming a building erase history? I am genuinely curious

I think It speak more to the culture of the south.

You can’t really blame the Democratic Party when this guy bailed on it when they signed the Civil Rights Act

We are all a product of our environment but we also have a duty to better ourselves.

Lots of discussions happening already with sledgehammers you people are wielding to take down various statues. Same discussions while defacing various monuments.

You’ll certainly be appeased after....

He was a committed Democrat and thus a committed public racist.Same shameless race-based approach as today's Democratic Party, just without the burning Wendy's.

Own it.

Now ask the next obvious question:

Why in frick did we allow an Institution so evil to hang around for 350 years give or take?

The fact that the Country allowed that level of widespread evil to become the foundation for life in America, just maybe America is getting what the fvck it deserves

You do realize our country was founded by slave owners who told us all men are created equal. Our country's history is filled with racism and bullshite. The first step to solving a problem is admitting you have one.

So you're agreeing with my post?

The first step to solving a problem is admitting you have one.

SO is that accomplished by removing any markers for anyone who was racist or had segregationist values? Because like i said and you agreed, that would encompass the vast majority of all persons of note in the history of our country.

No time for nuance. No room for humanity. This is Democratic Cartoon World. Just repeat a cartoonishly-simple slogan, say you are glad he's dead, and move on. Thinking is not allowed in Clown World.
