I still say (all else equal) if Bama & USC were reversed, Bama would be 11 and SC 14.
I remember back in 1980 when State beat Bama (6-3), late in the game, the referee negated a delay of game penalty against Alabama, stopped the clock and allowed them to regroup huddle before the snap.
Jack Cristil noted that evidently “Mr. Bear Bryant had something to say about that “ And the State field radio guy (John Correro) said, “well that is what you get when you are number 1”
So it has been going on for decades. Nothing to see here. Everyone move along now.

I don’t understand this take. The Rose Bowl was an excellent game. So was the Sugar Bowl. If the job of the committee was to pick the four best teams, they did a great job last year.
