Lane may never have another QB as good as Chambliss

Most reasonable people would agree that, long term, LSU is the better job. However, he may never have had a better chance to win a NC than last year and this year with Chambliss. He should have waited it out. There will always be big jobs available. He has no natural ties to Louisiana. Elite QB talent is hard to identify and hard to keep.

Lane promised LSU that Chambliss , Lacy and others was coming with him and failed on that promised. Just another L to add to his list of things.

It does have to eat at lane what he could have accomplished last year if he was all in on that team and if he stayed with this team this year and kept princewill, Watkins, etc..
Think he knows deep down winning a title at lsu would never compare to winning one at a program you feel you built.

As a P4 head coach Lane has won 10+ games with the following QBs.
USC: 10-2, Matt Barkley (4th round 98th pick, 11 year NFL career)
Ole Miss: 10-3, Matt Corral (3rd round 94th pick, 3 year NFL career)
Ole Miss: 11-2, Jaxson Dart (1st round 25th pick, current NFL starter)

That’s what I don’t get about Kiffin leaving for LSU, and certainly the timing of it. He could have had a legacy career at Ole Miss if he had stayed.

No I can’t say lsu is the better job not in today’s era of nil and transfers. Indiana changed all that! Coaches gamble on QBs all the time and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Ole Miss hit jackpot with Trinidad.

I’m serious that I think Kiffin just wanted to coast and not work and figured the money was too good to pass up + surely just LSU brand name will be enough. It’s exactly what Brian Kelly did. And we see how that ended. Either way, both LK and BK are set for life. They never have to worry about money for the rest of their lives, regardless of how bad their careers crash and burn eventually.

Kiffin is his own worst enemy. Always has been. I've watched his career since he was at Oakland.

I don't think Ole Miss makes it as far in the playoffs as they did if he is the Ole Miss coach.
Kiffin is a great offensive mind, but he doesn't really have good game day management.
And then he tried to use analytics instead and that was even worse.

My theory is that Lane was at Ole Miss for a while and experiencing success, but he always had that nagging anxiety that he may get fired at Ole Miss if he had a bad season here. He knew the honeymoon period was over and couldn’t overlook that nagging anxiety despite the success he was having. So he went while his star was brightest to start a new honeymoon period. It’s equal parts understandable and baffling.
