Is this where we pretend that coaches should speak out against the best interest of their program?

All things being equal, a conference champion should get in ahead of a team that is not one.

Is Lane the Donald Trump of coaches now?

He literally did not say that. Literally.

"Are we basing it on the entire year, the quality of opponents they beat or are we focusing on just one game? It's not really a fair and equitable way. Seems more reasonable to look at everyone's entire body of work when you decide who the best teams are"

His entire argument is put the best teams in. He then discussed 2011. This is pathetic.

Urban Meyer is already contradicting himself from last year. Now he is saying a conference championship matters where last year he was saying it doesn't. Funny how that works.....

Serious question -

What football coach is not going to say or think whatever is most beneficial to their team, regardless of what they may have said in the past about it?

His statement is contradictory, and he may even wish in hindsight that he didn't say that in 2016 given the position his team is in now, but let's not act like any coach in this position wouldn't say the same for his team. What else is he supposed to say?

It's not, his actual statement (not the meme text box) is entirely in line with his current position.

Based entirely on a statement he didn't make.
