That's the place that is like poison. If that is the true representation of MSU fans, they have become their own worst enemy.

In my totally uninformed, uneducated opinion, here is what I guess is going on re: Lane Kiffin/Auburn/Ole Miss. I imagine that Auburn has sent Lane Kiffin an offer, and he has told them that he will let them know after the Egg Bowl, and in the meantime he is in talks with Ole Miss about not only matching Auburn's offer but also matching the investment in facilities and NIL at Ole Miss that you see at places like Auburn. If Ole Miss matches Auburn's offer, and gives him assurances about investments in the football program that he is satisfied with, he may stay at Ole Miss, otherwise he will go to Auburn.

It would be a situation not unlike Tuberville back in the late 1990s, when Auburn made an offer, Tuberville went to Ole Miss and asked for more investment into the football program. When he wasn't satisfied with what Ole Miss said that they could do, he went to Auburn.

Either he is gone or he is trying to calm the players while worrying the OM administration so his agent can milk more money out of them

Kiffin gathered his team together and looked earnestly around the room. "Guys, we've been through a lot together. You deserve the truth and I want you to hear it from me. Guys, listen... I'm not leaving," he said, looking into the eyes of each player in turn and holding their gaze for a few seconds so that they could feel how he was baring his soul to them, "today. I'm not leaving today. I can make that promise to you, and I can probably keep it."

I agree with you but if he wins tomorrow and stays, all will be forgiven, until we do this dance again next year.

One thing to note is the NIL at Ole Miss is over $1 million more than what Lane asked for.

quote:

It would be a situation not unlike Tuberville back in the late 1990s

Nah, totally different situation. Ole Miss's AD back then, Pete Boone, was a penny pinching accountant that had a serious ego problem and thought he was more important than the HC. Wingnut asked for improvement and Boone flat out refused and wanted to play boss. There was even an incident with Boone's son in the weight room, where the kid was smarting off to the coaches and players. Totally toxic environment from a (lack of) leadership standpoint. Keith Carter, however, has given Lane everything he has asked for. Totally a night/day difference from today's AD to what it was 2 1/2 decades ago.

Quote from Lane on last night's RebTalk:

I still think it's up in the air, and I am leaning towards him leaving. At this point, however, he's done a good bit of harm to his reputation/goodwill in Oxford. There's ways to handle things, and ways to not handle things - he hasn't handled this past week and a half well at all. If he stays, great - continuality is best for a program. If he leaves, that's fine - Ole Miss is showing that we are at the point where we are committed to paying top money.
