We're talking about a president who is widely renowned for his honesty.

You have got to either be trolling or an avid reader of some sort of "alternative facts" type website to get to this type of conclusion.

Your stupidity continues to astound me.

It is very common knowledge that one of the biggest disagreements those in the North and South had was over the future of slavery in the Western territories, existing slavery in Southern states had little to do with anything.

I can present plenty of evidence for this, you've still presented nothing to prove your statement that the Civil War was fought to "preserve Southern slavery."

Typical leftist making shite up based on your feelings with no facts.

You severely lack critical thinking skills.
You post accurate facts, but completely fail to logically draw conclusions from them.

Why do you think the south cared about slavery in the Western territories so much?
The new territories being “free” territories were threats to southern slavery. It’s not hard to understand. Southern politicians knew this. They knew slavery in the U.S. had an expiration date.

quote:

I can present plenty of evidence for this

You have presented nothing but the same tired shite I can read by browsing pro confederate websites. Those all fall into the same flawed arguments of presenting evidence of people having reasons other than slavery to secede/fight, but that does not in any way counter the widely accepted conclusion that slavery was the primary factor.

quote:

you've still presented nothing to prove your statemen

That’s because I am making claims that are widely accepted.
If I said the earth’s shape resembled a globe, and you called me a “stupid lib” and said that the “earth was actually flat”, that would be on you, and not me, to explain your problem.

Just to entertain you, here is an excerpt from South Carolina’s declaration of secession:
quote:

A geographical line has been drawn across the Union, and all the States north of that line have united in the election of a man to the high office of President of the United States, whose opinions and purposes are hostile to slavery. He is to be entrusted with the administration of the common Government, because he has declared that that “Government cannot endure permanently half slave, half free,” and that the public mind must rest in the belief that slavery is in the course of ultimate extinction. This sectional combination for the submersion of the Constitution, has been aided in some of the States by elevating to citizenship, persons who, by the supreme law of the land, are incapable of becoming citizens; and their votes have been used to inaugurate a new policy, hostile to the South, and destructive of its beliefs and safety.

He’s not crying. He took a stand and made a difference. In his early 20s, he has accomplished more than you ever will in your sad life.

I'm glad you admitted that your viewpoint is your feelings and not facts.

Except your claims aren't.

Very few people say the Civil War was fought to "preserve Southern slavery"

Why? Because its an ignorant stance.

Where did I admit that? Another reading failure from the guy who couldnt get into LSU.

The Civil War was primarily fought because the southern states wanted to secede and form a confederacy where slavery was secure. If you honestly think that this isn’t the most widely understood take on the war, then you honestly need to get out more. I can link several random articles on mainstream news/media sites making this claim. And before you get all butthurt about the “liberal msm lies”, It’s called “mainstream” for a reason. I’m not referencing it because it’s a beacon of trustworthiness, I’m referencing it because it represents the mainstream viewpoint.

Jesus Christ dude.

Do you not understand how "critical thinking" or "drawing conclusions" works?

Your personal feelings are a big part of coming to those "conclusions" as opposed to simply stating facts as I have.

Its sad that a "guy who couldn't get into LSU" is kicking your arse in a discussion where you're clearly lost and your lack of understanding of historical events has been exposed.

C'mon son. You're losing a debate with a guy named Plate.

The Civil War was ONLY about southern slave owning elite wanting to preserve and ensure their power and influence. Everything else is white noise (figuratively and literally).

Be better.

Although, I am somewhat happy that the thread made it this far without anyone acknowledging the fact that his KEY to Columbus, MS only worked on the servant's entrance.

I do. You clearly don’t though. Conclusions are logically drawn from true premises. Premises are useless if you can’t take the step to form a conclusion. That’s the whole point of arguing, moron.

Says the guy who apparently doesn’t even understand how history is written. You do realize historians have to draw conclusions (gasp!) about events using often limited factual resources, right? Like, that’s the entire fricking point of historical archives and records. Did you even graduate high school?

I hope these next 4 years treat you well. I know history isn’t your strong suit, but all historic signs are pointing to a very blue 2020-2024. Gonna be hard to maintain your fake bubble world of “no one actually believes the civil war was about slavery”. I’m seriously concerned about how you delusional people will react to the changing times given how much you have cried about the fricking Mississippi flag, of all things. I mean, ffs, the writing has been on the wall for that flag for the past 5 years, at least.

Not sure why you keep putting words in my mouth, is it a result of your lack of reading ability?

Actually , damn near every intelligent life force on Planet Earth thinks that the Civil War was fought to preserve southern slavery

The only ones that don't, aren't very intelligent and are likely to be MAGA Hat wearing Trumpf-tards

Cry all over a thread about a kid getting recognized for standing up to something a lot of Mississippians have wanted changed for a long time.

Then for the "I was only pretending" troll cherry on top, accuse someone else of melting.
