NCAA has announced a mustard ban for the 2023 season and $50 fine.
No mustard for your nothing burger.

It probably would be a nothing burger if this was the only violation.
Even without major violations they could consider this a lack of institutional control because of the previous infractions under Pruitt.
Under Pruitt they had at least 18 level 1 violations that was still being investigated in October.

Consecutive coaches failing to run a clean program.
Not a good look for UKnox.

I mean....the player reached out to Tennessee? I get that the staffer texted back, and, apparently did so several times, but it seems like a stretch to me.

The leadership at Tennessee is so stupid. When something like this happens, you are supposed to blame Houston Nutt.

So a kid reached out to the Vols and they didn’t self report? Got it!!! Vols can’t help if someone calls them. No one knows what the conversation consisted of. Guess Vols should have self reported as soon as it happened.

If they wanted to get Heupel's attention, they could just make him run laps.

Everyone has lvl 3 stuff. And it was self reported. Add in the everyone connected to the previous stuff from the AD to staffers were removed and the previous stuff has been gone through.
It’s a nothing burger.

It might be a nothing burger, but Mizzou had 1 level 1 violation in 2016. We were fined, lost scholarships, post season ban, and the amount of recruiting trips, visits and talking with recruits. We were lucky because the sanctions started during COVID lockdown in 2020.
Mizzou’s violation had nothing to do with recruiting. It was a tutor doing work for athletes. The University self reported and still was given the shaft.
Mizzou 1 level violation vs Tennessee’s 18 Level 1 violations.
You might get lucky

A level III and the school ended contact with the player. Nothing burger.
That just seems like due diligence on the part of the athlete.

Seriously, I see no reason why an athlete, his agent or parent putting out feelers before he enters the portal is an infraction.

What a waste of time and bandwidth. No matter what team you root for, I guarantee that you'll have more than one level 3 violation this year. Some teams have double digit minor violations in a year. Tennessee has one and everybody acts like it's a big deal. It ain't!
