The idea that the transfer portal is going to make it easier for a historically mediocre program to win a title is a fantasy.

In the long run, it may increase the number of teams that can win a title in a given year from say 8 to 15, but the historically mediocre teams will get worse, if they haven't already.

Most everyone readily agrees that this version of college football is not sustainable

Oh it's quite sustainable. It's just not sustainable with a fair number of the current coaches who can't or won't adapt. Their numbers will fade away like a fart in the winds of time, and new coaches who understand and know how to properly work in the new paradigm will come to fore. Some will dominate.

It's just the way of things.

There aren’t close to 15 teams that can win a title and never will be. There aren’t even 8 this season. Georgia and OSU would be double digit favorites at a neutral site over everyone except a handful of teams, and the transfer portal has been in full swing for a few years now.

The mediocre teams have definitely gotten worse. The teams at the bottom of the Top 25 basically get flattened by championship contenders 9/10 times, even at home. That wasn’t always the case.

What? Saban went back to back. And also won 7 titles

I think KS is definitely one of the coaches that's been alluded to as saying off record they might possibly quit due to the changes in cfb

I think Kirby is going to push change as hard as he can and if cfb doesn’t change, He will quit. Which would be a pretty big blow to the people in charge of the sport bc he’s the premier coach in the game currently and he’s still young.

The game is going to get worse if it doesn’t change. Coaches don’t want to put up with this shite and I can’t blame them

Two good seasons doesn't turn UGA into Alabama. Sorry, I know you want it to be true but it's not. Not even close. Alabama has 100 years worth of success and championships, and people love to hate Alabama because of it. UGA is a great program, maybe the best program at the moment (we will soon find out), but they aren't Alabama.

Ok, but no one said that it did.

Since you also forgot to do so, how about answering my question. When exactly did sabama “earn it”?

To anyone under 50, they don’t even remember Bryant. They do remember the 25+ years after him though, so this point is strictly about saban’s bama .

There’s a very small group of schools, even in P4, that believe buying a $20 mil+ roster is worth it for even 1-2 years.

Add in the fact that it’s proven to work and it becomes less likely to be an issue. TAMA bought 2 recruiting classes and it blew up in their face. In basketball UK tried and failed.

This is a copycat league as much as it can be and when something has proven to not work it fades away.

This is a gay argument.

Is Patton less relevant as a general bc gay millennials and Zoomers don’t know of him? What about Alexander? Napoleon?

Gay.

And you think Jerry Jones and the salary cap in the NFL is unregulated? You need to try a lot harder for comparisons to what is ailing college football these days.

if you want to be serious. Nick Saban retired because of it

Saban was 72 years old with nothing left to prove. The combination of being old and already at the top is why he retired.

Add in some GenX too. To most everyone, Saban is FAR more relevant than Bryant is in 2024.

“Kirby and Saban are the same. Now that they can't stack the chips in their favor”

This is the biggest cop out I hear on here. Stack chips in their favor? What does that even mean? Cheating? Oh, your school does it too. Even been caught a couple times. Having the best players? Yeeeaaa, the Chiefs win all those super bowls because their players suck. The SEC refs or scheduling? To have gotten fricked over so bad by Bama the LSU fan base sure whines about the Bama game possibly not being on the schedule and how it would hurt college football to lose that game.
