Barrett Sallee analyzes Smart after S.C. game, overall. Click link and start listening at 7:40 mark. Great insight into the UGA program under Smart. In nutsell imo, Smart great recruiter, not so game day, "not growing as a HC per many uga fans. Sallee fwiw lives in Ga. has hear to ground concerning UGA.

He has made some terrible calls as HC. Being in the east has shielded him to an extent

Logically, what is it you are judging his first four years as a head coach by? frick, he has been stellar even compared to all time great coaches...

Kirby doesn't appear to be learning from mistakes, nor from what's going on in the rest of the college football world.

you have got to score a lot of points these days, and have a real attack.

Yeah. It’s great message board fodder, but he’s doing a pretty solid job.

I’d guess he would like a more dynamic offense on the results side, but it’s nonsensical to be down on him at this point.

Barrett is fine but he doesn't have his finger on the pulse of anything and he's not really a CFB expert of any sort

he's literally a message board poster who watches a lot of CFB who graduated to a full time gig (and good for him)

there's no need, the book on kirby is 100% crystal clear obvious. Outstanding defensive coach (our defense this year is fantastic), elite recruiter. Knows nothing about modern offense and refuses to adapt.

That's pretty much it. The day he decides to bring our offense to modern era we will be a force. Until then, we will continue to struggle.

We all knew this esp. after 2017 NC game. I don't understand why these analysts take so long to say what the average already knows?

Indeed. Do you can a coach who, for all his faults, will win 10 games a year and still has the potential to change?

Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with the pro style offense Georgia runs, they just need to open it up more. Smart is too conservative and too cautious and that makes his offense too predictable.

You can absolutely line up under center and grind teams into the dust with the running game, you just have to be more willing to pull the trigger on play action passes on first down.

So he's not fine? He's a moron like people on here you mean?

The guy also tries to shock jock for clicks every year. He's a joke.

Sum Kirby up in 3 ways.

1. Excellent Recruiter - BTW - magnificent recruiting base.
2. Average at Best In-Game Coach
3. Halo will fade fast if he loses 1 or 2 more games this year

which is kind of weird because as the Alabama D.C. the offenses he had the most problems with were the spread or RPO types. He was generally very good vs the more conservative offense. So what does he run at UGA? More conservative offense.

I'm biased but I think he does this no more than anyone else in the industry.

Now, whether or not the industry should be limited to those with strong insight into the game or particular programs is a fair question, but that's not how it has been for a long time.

Kirby would be crazy not to run a pro style offense with the O-Line and RB talent he has. UGA's offense is limited this year by not having a deep threat at WR. No amount of coaching is going to make an opponent respect the deep ball when UGA doesn't have the personnel to pose a vertical threat. UGA is essentially playing on a 35 yard field at all times.

Barrett Sallee is a Dawg shill. Pure homer.
