I’d say 2nd base. Kirby took them nuclear in recruiting. Georgia had something crazy like 1 DT drafted in first 3 rounds the last decade with Richt. They had a solid base of talent but lacked the couple raw ingredients to go elite.
Ryan Day is an example of being born on 3rd base.

Much better example. Kudos.

Would he have gotten to 100 that fast playing in the SEC West?
He’ll no

By comparison Saban hit it at 118 games and Spurrier 120 games
those guys were also HCs at other programs prior to their SEC gigs. Makes it even more impressive IMO

3rd base is silly, we were ranked 85th on offense the year before and had a depleted roster from years of recruiting small classes. No portal to help rebuild at the time either.
We beat a 3-9 tech team by 7 points and got taken to OT by Georgia Southern. And our QB room of that era consisted of Hutson Mason, Greyson Lambert, and Faton Bauta. The 2015 team didn't beat a single ranked team, and the best wins were against 7-6 Auburn & 7-6 Penn State.

Spurrier did it at Duke and Florida.
And they played 11 game seasons back then and games could end in a tie until 1996 or 1997. Ol ball coach had to win in regulation. Not taking away from Kirby's accomplishment. It's been an impressive run and still more to come.

Cope.
And WTF are you talking about with LSU? Who built their program?

Gene Simmons of Metallica IIRC.

He wasn’t born on 3rd base but he took over a 10 win team that was top 10 in talent composite.

It's worth noting that unlike Saban and Spurrier, this is Kirby's first HC gig.

Cope about what? Georgia not being able to beat an Alabama team in a year where they were so bad they lost to Vandy and Tennessee?
Alabama may have 99 problems, but Kirby Smart and Georgia ain't one of them.

That's fine, 2nd base, 3rd base whichever. It's just not the same. It's not to say he's a bad coach, but the stat isn't really telling the whole story.

Spurrier won before recruiting became a big joke or what it is today.
Back when one team didn't magically sign half the 5* players and there was more parity in CFB across the nation.

There were no 5* players back then that I ever knew about. There were highly recruited players, but I never heard anything about recruiting rankings until 15-20 years ago.
The big thing was you had to develop players back then and you had 3-5 years to do it. You still have to develop talent, but no where near as much as the game has been dumbed down.

It’s not the same, but it’s also not as different as you claim. Our 2015 team sucked, and 2016 roster was in worse shape.
