I'm not sure why he doesn't just come out and say "I am staying at Ole Miss." Make it obvious that you are not leaving.

If he does end up staying, next year all the rumors will be saying "Kiffin to A&M"

Ole Miss is a stepping stone school for Kiffin and he knows it. If I was an Ole Miss fan, I would want him to leave now and rip the band-aid off.

Why would he give up his leverage?

Therein lies the problem. If your coach is successful, the bigger programs come calling. If they're not, Matt Luke is your current OM legacy roaming the sidelines.

because he hasn't officially received the offer from Auburn yet. Even if he wants to stay, I don't blame him for seeing just how much money Auburn's willing to offer.

I don't disagree with this. Obviously I'd much rather him stay another year to try and further build the program before leaving.....but this is kryptonite for recruiting right now.

OM needs to rehire Freeze and be done with it but I'm not sure if he would take the lateral move... he is undefeated vs. the SEC this year and knows how to win big games

Not really a problem if you have a good AD, make the right hire and your program is already in great shape to continue winning.

Would we even believe him?

Saban said “I’m not going to be the coach at Alabama” Tubs obviously made his pine box comment.

Talk means very little at this stage. Action does though. So the real question is why hasn’t he signed the extension? But there are also possibilities there even if he is actually staying at OM.

Why would he let his entire team/staff/fanbase think he is leaving before the biggest game of the season?

Possibilities:

(1) he's going to Auburn or somewhere else

(2) he's waiting to see what other schools offer so he can counter

(3) the big numbers been agreed to but other issues are still being worked out, such as staff salary, recruiting budget, bonuses, etc.

If Kiffin doesn’t take the Auburn job then he is holding out for something Bigger and there’s not a many things bigger…if you know what I mean!

Well if plans to stay it gives him extra time an a leg up on recruiting with early national signing day coming around the corner

Lane Kiffin is angling for Lane Kiffin.

Kiffin has ZERO loyalty to anyone or anything other than himself.

Agreed. There zero reason to put any stock in anything anyone says during a coaching search. Until there ink on the paper it doesn’t mean anything.

It would be better to follow the guy who follows Saban than to be the guy who follows Saban. He's young enough to wait for that but he doesn't strike me as the patient sort.

Just like 99.9% of college football coaches.
