Probably a dumb question, but I haven't lived in the South for several years...

Is the general population in MS more racist than in LA these days?

The majority of the student body at Ole Miss (i.e., over 50%) aren't even from MS. So is Kiffin just saying that everyone in MS, aside from the students, is extremely racist?

The most racist folks in the U.S. are liberals from the northeast.

Wgaf. Racism is a worn out trope that’s lost any semblance of a thing after the george floyd debacle.

This is all a bunch of nonsense both ways. Young people today aren’t choosing schools based on history. It is now about money, playing time, coaching and exposure.

UK was the first in the SEC to recruit and play black players. It was the right thing to do but we aren’t beating out everyone for recruits because of that history. We are doing better now with a new coach, more money and available playing time.

Why didn’t you just type, “I have no intention of addressing the actual issue.”?

I'm in an interracial marriage, and honestly the only time we've experienced overt racism in the South was in Bama. No problems in Arkansas (even up in Harrison), no problems in Mississippi, no problems in Louisiana or Texas or Tennessee. We don't spend a lot of time in any of the other states. But I don't hold that against the whole state of Alabama. Sometimes you're just unlucky enough to run into the town idiot.

That said, people up North in New England are racist as frick. We were in Maine for a while. Racism constantly. Boston, same story. New York was a little better, but mostly in the blue collar parts. The higher class parts had that soft racism that's difficult to call out and makes you wonder if you're just being too sensitive.

Anytime you interview with folks like that it is best to video the entire thing so you have proof of what happened later on.

I wouldn't doubt that you get a player from outside of the South refuse to play at Ole Miss, people have weird perceptions.

I saw a lesbian couple from Virginia asking if they'd be safe moving to the Mississippi Gulf Coast on a board the other day.

I read a comment on Reddit once where a black person said they were afraid to drive through Alabama and a bunch of people were basically like, that's nuts.

He's saying that is the perception for some out of state black families. Pretty easy to understand. It's also not a secret that the city of Baton Rouge is majority black.

What he said was probably true. It just rubbed OM in a particularly wrong way due to who said it and the fact that they try to compete with LSU in recruiting.
