Just being honest. If we cheated... we should own it

However, a guy testifying he purchased players is admitting his own "crimes".
Who is he? What is his connection etc.

What do you mean "IF" you cheated?

I didn't pay any players and I imagine it goes on everywhere and football is gonna be fun. So yeah I don't feel like I really need to do anything.

Happened to us in early 90s—a booster screwed us over, and our coaches knew nothing about it.
A big money donor paid one of our players a salary for a summer job that he never actually did.
The NCAA found zero evidence of A&M involvement, but slapped us with a lack of institutional control violation.
Resulted in a bowl ban during an undefeated season.
Sucked.

I’m not trying to be an a-hole but coaches know it’s going on. They just turn a blind eye.

I’d agree w you, had more than one player been involved.
But it was one kid who lived in the same town as the booster.
Who knows?
It was a really lousy deal, though.
I always feel sorry for the students and fans in these situations.

There's just no way for these coaches to keep up with every player, especially when they go back home.

At least Bama got something for their money. Other teams on that list should get the death penalty for wasting money like that.

Still doesn't explain the charger/challengers the players get. Doesn't explain pictures before stepping on campus with cash and other nonsense. It's understandable that Alabama gets top talent, but there was cheating done since 2007.

Agreed.
There’s a difference between what happened at places like Baylor and Ole Miss and an isolated incident.
I will say that our Office of Compliance become insane after that deal.
Paranoia is a real, breathing creature in their suite.
They brow beat us (boosters) every stinkin’ chance they get.

It isn't assholish; it is a certainty.
Everyone knows that sports agents court, buy/bribe/pay college students and amateurs in every sport in hope of securing their services when they turn pro.
Any attempt to curb it is wasted effort.
The NCAA knows it as well, and this is the reason nothing will come of it (aside from 3 blueblood football programs in the mix).
When they can prove a player was enticed to attend a certain university or, in this case (PSU) remain at a certain university, there may be NCAA attention.
But, rougue agents flooding the market and greasing palms of current players and family members with hopes of getting a % of their Pro contract at a date TBD in the future is not really in the University's purview or ability to control.
They have people looking for infractions or excess. If they miss obvious signs of corruption then shame on them. But, it is hard to tie them directly to an incident. And, if it had no influence on attendance to the school... is the school really cheating?

when you defend your position in an argument back to the 1800s, you're guilty asf

Zero chance. The statute of limitations on that is 4 years. He's been gone for almost 16. They only way they could go after this is if they discovered that the assistant who begged the FP to pay LJ to keep him in school was part of an organized effort by the school to cheat. He's been gone forever, so that's not going to happen either.

quote:If you think Ole Miss and Baylor are at all comparable, you're incredibly dense. Baylor was covering up sexual assaults. Ole Miss boosters may or may not have paid players. The NCAA never had hard proof it happened but still punished us.

Freeze was never directly implicated by the NCAA
