Obv not shocking, but he's supposedly telling all now that time limitations have passed. Can't wait to hear all these stories after the NCAA is gone.

quote:

Manziel estimates he made more than $30,000 signing autographs as the sport's most-heralded star. Manziel says he was approached by a "guy" who asked he wanted to make extra money and was asked to sign "probably 10,000 pieces" before the start of the season.

quote:

Manziel didn't go into further detail, but did say the "statute of limitations" is over in terms of possible NCAA violations since he accepted cash for autographs after he won the Heisman. During the 2013 season, the Aggies would finish 9-4 and beat Duke in a bowl game.

quote:

That year is the reason I got in so much trouble down the line because I treated it like a kegger to be honest," Manziel said. "Every week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, we had a full-blown king’s cup, beer olympics at the house.

Drinking Natty lites and Old Milwaukee’s was on sale for $16.99. That was the best.”

Manziel said then-assistant Kliff Kingsbury knew what was going on with his quarterback's partying and sent Riley Dodge to his place to "scoop him" out of bed. Manziel said he played better the harder he partied.

A great quote from the actual interview is left out but it was something like

“If the NCAA wants to come take away my 9-4 season and my Chick Fil A bowl against Duke…frickin blow me”

Here's a link (TMZ) with his podcast interview embedded.
quote:

"So, this guy's pretty much, 'All right, go to this room at the Fontainebleau. All this stuff will be in there laid out. When you're done, just send me a picture of all of it. I'll give you the code to the safe, the money will be in there,'" Johnny says.

"I never took a dollar until after I won the Heisman, and I think my statute of limitations are up. So, you can blow me."

It was a funny interview. Johnny Football still doesn't give a frick. He had to be a coaching nightmare. Too talented to bench or control for Sumlin and Kingsbury. That weekly party story and the dedicated guy to scoop Manziel up for school and practice was classic and exactly how I've imagined his college football career.

That said, Heisman can do what they want. There is no statute of limitations for them. But, zero % chance they are taking a Heisman back over a NIL individual profit effort.

On the other hand, NCAA are some petty bitches. They may not like the bragging and open declaration that they can "blow him." There is "generally" a 4 year statute of limitations, but there are exceptions.
quote:

19.5.11 Statute of Limitations. Allegations included in a notice of allegations shall be limited to possible violations occurring not earlier than four years before the date the notice of inquiry is provided to the institution or the date the institution notifies (or, if earlier, should have notified) the enforcement staff of its inquiries into the matter. However, the following shall not be subject to the four-year limitation: (Adopted: 10/30/12 effective 8/1/13)
(a) Allegations involving violations affecting the eligibility of a current student-athlete;
(b) Allegations in a case in which information is developed to indicate a pattern of willful violations on the part of the institution or individual involved, which began before but continued into the four-year period; and
(c) Allegations that indicate a blatant disregard for the Association’s fundamental recruiting, extra benefit, academic or ethical-conduct bylaws or that involve an effort to conceal the occurrence of the violation. In such cases, the enforcement staff shall have a one-year period after the date information concerning the matter becomes available to the NCAA to investigate and submit to the institution a notice of allegations concerning the matter.

A stance of frick your rules and blow me on a public forum may fit the bill for sub-paragraph c, BUT probably not. NIL era is upon us and opening cans of worms for past transgressions that 90%+ of top tier athletes are already doing is a dangerous game.

That said, it would be funny if his mouth got aTm in trouble. The NCAA loves to punish kids and programs years later for individuals actions they had nothing to do with.

Sounds like this was all on his own back alley deals, not boosters or the athletic department.

I remember Eric Ramsey and some of the most severe NCAA penalties that have been handed down. Whatever became of all that Menswear propaganda anyway?

I have never had a problem with these guys making money under the table. Power 5 athletes are professionals in every sense of the word and its stupid that they don't get straight up monetary compensation for what they do.

The education and perks are valuable no doubt but the student part of it has been pretty much optional for decades and not all of them want that.

He was a kid enjoying his life. This is the exact reason the NCAA needs to be updated and stop making money off the players.

Yeah . . . at some point you have to call a spade a spade. Free Shoes University, OSU Tattoo-gate, Reggie Bush, etc.

The NCAA clamped down fairly well on the high level stuff and other avenues opened up.

With NIL open season after July 1, it's all a moot point. But Johnny Football is one tone-deaf dude. In life, there are always degrees of stupid and that guy is pushing the limits of credibility.

That was with Sumlin, can you imagine the money being thrown out for athletes now under the current Head Midget Jimbo?

Eric wasn't paid to sign autographs and the penalty was 4 total scholarships (nothing like staring down a barrel of gun). I love that you think the Menswear issue was propaganda, when he had signing parties and everything in the shop had signatures. Of course players did it for free. No, this has been going on for a long time and the NCAA turned a blind eye. So JFF has never had anything to worry about.

Johnny should probably keep his trap shut. I have no problem with him doing what he did in college, partying, making money, etc, I think that its kind of awesome, but he shouldn't be blabbing about the money part. People that do that sometimes get whacked. Its always a good move to not talk about that kind of shite.

EVERYONE--including the NCAA--knew that Manziel was selling memorabilia. Manziel's family had plenty of money and lawyers, and dared the NCAA to declare him ineligible. The NCAA blinked.
