Bowden did some ridiculous shite. What was it top 5 for 10 years or something? The coaches from The U in the 80's and 90's were sick. Bear is still the best these guys are just "close".

I think its dumb to compare bball coaches and football coaches.

14 straight years. Amazing run but the ACC was very weak back then, even worse than it today. Now, Florida State's OOC schedule was always extremely tough which made up for it but being in such a weak conference does put a damper on his accomplishments a little. His teams were also always heavily penalized which indicates a lack of discipline. Also, the guy did a lot of scummy things such as writing a letter for the early release of a convicted rapist, placing no emphasis on the classroom, the free shoes scandal and a laundry list of other things. As for the Miami coaches being on Bryant's level

Wooden in a landslide IMO.

So can anybody address my point on how Wooden starts winning championships left and right after doing nothing for fifteen years? I look at other great coaches and there's usually a pattern to their success. They either start winning right away or accomplished great things in their prior stops or showed steady signs of improvement while building up their program. I don't see any of those things with Wooden. It was just instant success out of the blue...

Please note that each coach's winning percentage at the school they're most closely associated with is virtually identical, with a slight edge to Bryant.
As much as you can possibly compare coaches in different sports, it's pretty much a wash, IMO.

good show there man.
how many years did both men coach in total? considering how many more games you can fit into ONE year in basketball, it's almost unfair to compare the two sports. for example, say you have SUPER uber badass team you put together. if you get to play 100 games that year, and win like 95 of them... then that's 95 wins for your W column, but all with one team.
so to compare is really silly imho.

Wooden coached 11 years of high school ball, 29 years of college. Bear coached 38 years, all at the college level.
Wooden's non-UCLA college record was 47-14 (0.778). His 11 year high school record was 218-42 (0.838).
Bryant's non-Bama college record was 91-39-8 (0.679). The 1-9 Junction Boys record at aTm in the 50's mars a fantastic overall record.

You realize that almost every single year in football there is an undefeated or 1 loss team. You rarely ever see that in college basketball. How many titles does each coach have(note: Wooden's were all undisputed and not voted on or shared).

I understand that. However, that does not diminish how hard an undefeated record is to acheive, even in football.
You realize that Florida has never had one.
Auburn has had one since the early 90's.
LSU's last undefeated team was in 1958.
See what I mean?
