I believe Mister Tee is right and not only about Alabama but this holds true for all SEC schools. Now before everyone on the Rant unloads on me let me explain.
No one cares about AU but graduates, present students, sons and daughters of graduates. They have very little national appeal as such those are the only attendees of their games.
Where in all other SEC schools have a broder fan base and while the percentages given by this poster can not be confirmed the premises seems acutely reflect what is occurring.

Know what you’re alluding to but your premise is wrong as his idea would not have changed the results of the LSU / Bama game.
The thought of getting GA into a BCS game does not mean put them in the championship game this year nor would it last year.

This is a hard question and the answer depends on who and how old you are!
I still think of UT as our main rival and AU as the most hated!
I do admit that over the last several years LSU has been the most competitive game and one we circle on the calendar each year.
To that end I think the LSU is growing into a rivalry game by vulture of its importance but the tradition is not there yet.

I'd say a good 95% from personal experience. Between my time living in New Orleans and Mobile, AL, I've met TONS of Alabama fans. Of course, none of them nor their immediate family members have any affiliation with the University. As a matter of fact, I don't know if 10% of the people I've met in Mobile have even gone to ANY type of college/university.

The University of Alabama’s enrolment as of 2004 was over 20,000 students and growing. The university has been in the business of teaching the youth of Alabama and surrounding states since 1820.
Given this and the percentage of people who enjoy watching the football team play that have an affiliation is only 5% good god. Do you know what this means we have a larger fan base than any team in any sport, we win!
