Not a Nuke. Was offered that when I signed up but went another route. In my 20+ years I deployed on both. Was not a fan of the bird farms aka carriers. While submarine duty is a hard life I enjoyed it for the most part . I have to say I was only along when the boats I deployed on were doing spec ops. I was what they affectionately referred to as a “frickin rider” lol. I didn’t have the pleasure of ORSE prep, and all the other things that go into everyday sub life. I was on them for 70-90 days and off. I rode 12 different boats in the 80,s and 90’s. All that said boat crews are pretty close knit and are well trained , they have to be . As far as Nukes go, first on the ship and last ones off. It’s a grind. Best of luck to him in whatever he chooses. I’d be happy to give him more details if he would like .

Much like Iraq. Missile battery crews either sabotaged their equipment, making it “inoperable” or just refused to power up and illuminate. Eye in the sky was ready to soak up loc data and boom!
