The day LSU gave Saban $1 million changed the college coaching landscape forever. No college coach should be paid over $5 million. No way the salaries can keep going this high. It's ridiculous top assistants are making over $1 million.

The market determines what coaches are worth, not some yahoo on the internet.

Blame the ADs and administrations that keep paying these stupid salaries in hopes that spending big on a coach equals instant success. Not Sexton's fault.

bidding wars for "established" coaches

What you and many others fail to realize is the entire idea of an AGENT is to represent his/her client to the best of his/her ability AND get them the biggest paycheck possible...

Who the Hell "fails to realize" this?

There legitimate concerns about Sexton representing multiple parties who are vying for the same job while
also representing and negotiating a buyout another party for the same job.

Great for him for getting paid but there are obvious conflicts of interest in what he's doing especially when monopolizes the product.

He has a monopoly over college football.

Given that he doesn't represent every coach, and isn't the only agent in the business, no he doesn't have a monopoly.

This.

What is Sexton supposed to do when some school desperately runs up to one of the coaches he represents, dick in hand, and says, "Name your price." That's not on Sexton.

College sports is the biggest ADVERTISEMENT a school has good or bad and therefore they will find avenues to pay for their advertising to bring in students and money from alumni and sponsors.
In my first interview with a college AD for a coaching job, at a university where none of their athletic teams had been successful, I told the man that "college athletics is the biggest advertisement any school has in the United States...and that they have one of the worst advertisements I've ever seen. I told him that if he just wanted to have activities for the student body, you have intramurals and that mediocrity doesn't get advertised in the paper." He said he was shocked I would say that in a job interview. I told him that, "I had a job and I have always been a winner, was competitive and that unless they wanted to do ANYTHING it took to compete for titles, then I had no interest in coaching there."
DROP THE MIC...

good partnership...got job

Exactly, and the market will correct itself. I feel like this is going to be a mini .com boom and it will unfortunately come crashing down to some degree at some point. Schools can't keep upping the ante. At some point the lucrativeness of CFB will even out. Every product goes through a life cycle and I believe we are close to the peak of CFB with the cord cutting etc. Just don't see how this will continue to sustain itself.
