Petrino used to be kind of an offensive genius but his system is outdated. His second stint at Louisville wasn't good at all.

He certainly didn't live up to their lofty expectations. But then again the question should be asked, based on their history what SHOULD be their expectations?
And then the inevitable obstacle of who exactly do you hire that's better. Doubt they can get a coach who has a national championship on their resume like Jimbo.
It's NOT going to be the big-name homerun hire they want.
Do you think their ego is going to allow them to hire the "up and coming" coordinator or coach from a small school? Yes, they could technically be better coaches than Jimbo, but it won't be the big name.
You think their ego would allow them to hire LaTech's coach like Florida did?
They will go after big names in CFB and NFL and get turned down multiple times.

This is exactly why I didn't think Jimbo would get bought out so quick. The cost to fire and then hire a good candidate, even for A&M, seems absurd.
Is A&M counting on money being completely useless at some point?
