Totally different situations.
Brian Kelly is in year 1.
If he doesn’t have a natty after 4 years, we’re not giving him a better contract.
THAT’S what A&M did with Jimbo.

Who gives a $hit, this is an LSU board. Why are we asking about JF a Fn a$$hole.
good lord man, we can extend the discussion a bit. No good ever comes from living in a fish bowl.

Besides, what happens at A&M indirectly affects LSU.

There's more to life that just purple and gold.

after only four years of a 10 year contract they decided to extend him another four years?

Supposedly because they were concerned he was talking to LSU when O was fired

Good luck with that. Jimbo has great representation and enough sense to stay out of that trap.

I don't want to laugh too hard at the Aggies - yet

There are some similarities. But also differences

1. The criticism is with the (seemingly) unnecessary extension/massive buyout. Not the original deal. He got the extension on the heels of a 9-1 season in 2020. A season where A&M got crushed by one of the two ranked teams they played (Alabama) and barely squeaked by the other (Florida). Plus, it was in a season that was unlike any other in college football history.

2. Jimbo was somewhat on the down-swing when he got the A&M job. He won the national championship in 2013 and returned the playoffs in 2014. In 15 and 16 he had 10 and 9 win seasons, but completely collapsed in 2017 to a 5-6 record. On the flip-side, Kelly was 44-6 with two CFP appearances (and an shot at a 3rd last season) in the four years prior to taking the LSU job.

Maybe this does turn out to be a horrible contract for LSU. But what gives me confidence that it won't is Kelly's long track record of success and his willingness to evolve. Jimbo will NEVER admit it, but it is HIM who is holding back the A&M program. His offense is terrible and it seems impossible to have success in it as a QB. Yet, he refuses to change. He just thinks if he keeps grinding it will eventually get better. Not unlike a former SEC West coach who steadfastly refused to change his offensive approach, despite the fact all of college football knew it was antiquated.

Michigan State? Wasn’t their coach a candidate, but we didn’t get him?

We should never give Kelly another contract. Serve this one out, then adios. He’d be 70. I don’t care if he’s coming off a national championship. Adios, and thanks!

Any exceptions to this should be one year extensions. A 70 year old man is about to fall of a performance cliff if he hasn’t already.

Meh.. if he can be as successful as Saban & win a couple natty’s then he deserves to coach as long as he wants.

Saban just got a 8 year extension at the age of 69, but I don’t think he’ll coach till 77.

I don’t want them to fire him. I know he is limited as a coach. They may get the right guy.

This is how every other SEC team felt about us and Les Miles.

Has there ever been a bigger fraud in the history of coaching than Jimbo?

I don't know, but if a coach is a fraud the best place for him to be is another school in our division.

They are currently 3-4 & probably won’t make a bowl game. They did the same thing A&M did with Jimbo.

Mel Tucker was rumored & people like Ryan Clark wanted him, but I don’t think he was ever a serious candidate.

The LSU job is going to be opening in the near future. I already considered it once before and NOW the AD that brought me here is there. If you want to make sure I stay here when the LSU job opens in a year or two, let's go ahead and lock in a new, lucrative, extension after my "great" covid season."

Pictured this with Jimbo’s voice. Nice.

This next off season of those entering the Transfer Portal is going to tell the tale for Jimbo/A&M going forward together.

There was a big push by some in the media and, no doubt, Tucker's representatives for the LSU job. Fortunately, no one who was actually involved in making the hire considered him to be a top candidate. Tucker had one, ONE, good season at MSU. Unfortunately, for MSU the LSU job because available and even they would agree it would be tough for them to compete with that job. Thus, they threw the bank at Tucker to keep him at MSU. That's GREAT for Tucker considering he was never going to be hired by LSU.

is Jimbo's contract publicly available? I'd be interested to see how broad/narrow the concept of Cause is defined...

Maybe they should fire him and then pray for hyperinflation.

This is the correct answer. There are certain kids that Fisher cannot lose and retain his job. As for money, that really may not be an issue.
