Vols coach Jeremy Pruitt says Jarrett Guarantano will remain the starting quarterback Saturday against Arkansas.

Pruitt says J-G understands the expectations, and he’s better at getting the guys around him to play at a higher level.

Pruitt hopes Guarantano and his supporting cast are in sync against the Razorbacks. Said Pruitt:”You know you can have 10 guys do exactly right and maybe the left guard gets beat or doesn’t do it the right way and it messes up the entire play. It only takes one guy that can create a bad play offensively. That’s why you’ve got to be able to play as a unit.”

I used to think Pruitt was a good hire but damn, i don’t know what he sees in Guarantano. Everyone has already seen JG and what he’s capable of. Maybe he even is their “best chance to win” at QB compared to what they have but at this point in the season it’s a waste of reps for younger guys.

Just think of how bad Jimmy Brumbaugh must have been at coaching.

I still like the post from one of the Vol Boards a couple of years ago that went something like "Jesus did not die on the cross for Jarret Guarantano to be our starting Quarterback".

So it is not the QB but the left guard? Excited that Pruitt has finally solved Tennessee's problem. Hogs better watch out. Who is the new left guard?

If I were a UT fan that would scare the shite out of me because it says our 5 star all world backups can’t beat out our shitty starter.

Damn. Even we got Gran to change QBs.

I'm not even sure what to say about this one. Godspeed.

To be fair, some staffs for whatever reason have a hard time getting passed being loyal to a player who has been with the program. We've had that issue at UK with certain players (i.e. Rose, Wilson). I think their third stringer against us was capable but wasn't really given the opportunity before they pulled him to put Guarantano back in.

The game has changed with transfers and offense-heavy rule changes.

#1 thing a new head coach has to do is go out and recruit an upperclassman QB transfer for year 1 or year 2 + recruit a 4/5 star HS QB for year 3. If you can't do both those things, you are basically fricked unless you're an offensive whiz.

If any of the QBs on your team were worth a shite, the guy before you wouldn't have been fired, and you cannot in 2020 win with "just" an elite defense.

That brings back nightmares of when Brandon Allen injured his back. The kid could barely throw the ball ten yards, had no accuracy on his throws, and couldn't move faster than an old man shuffle. But good ole Bert left him in there against Mizzou who had one of the best pass rushes in the country that year because he was our starter.
