Going to be funny when Rashada is sued by the Miami booster Ruiz for the contract that the kid originally backed out on. Rashada's money was given to Lagway, which is a much better investment.
The big difference is that assuming these are conditional contracts ("IF player X signs with team Y then he'll receive Z amount"), there's no grounds for a lawsuit from Miami. He didn't sign with them, but he also didn't get paid for signing with them.
The difference with Rashada is he DID actually sign with UF. When they still wouldn't adhere to to the signed contract and he fulfilled his side but they didn't, he asked for a release from his letter of intent and went to ASU.
But he actually did fulfill his end of the deal. UF's NLI collective refused to honor their end.
He probably wouldn't have any grounds if he hadn't signed with UF. But because he did, UF is going to be liable for some amount of the contract.

Despite it being essentially legal to pay players now, college football feels sleazier than ever now.

He didn't sue over breach of contract.

Regardless of how you spin this it's not good for UF. Obviously he's been after $. I don't know anything other than what I've read but for UF, I think recruiting just got harder.

There is nothing good about this for UF unless you think being able to get rid of Napier for cause is a good thing. I will let you know where I stand on that sometime in October ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

He didn't sue over breach of contract.
"The complaint, filed in the Pensacola Division of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida, details a number of counts alleging Napier, Hathcock and others fraudulently induced Rashada, then a highly regarded high school quarterback prospect, to attend Florida with no intention of following through on their financial promises. Specifically, the lawsuit claims "fraudulent misrepresentation and inducement, aiding and abetting fraud, civil conspiracy to commit fraud, negligent misrepresentation, tortious interference with a business relationship or contract and aiding and abetting tortious interference."
The definition of the bolded part:
"Tortious interference with contract arises when a defendant intentionally convinces or causes a third party to breach its contract with the plaintiff, which results in damages to the plaintiff."
So effectively.... breach of contract.

To be honest, there are so many details in the stories coming out about this that it's hard to imagine those being sued not being held liable for a significant amount.
It's not a "he said, she said". There was an originally signed contract between UF and Rashada. There is the letter notifying of the cancellation of that contract the day AFTER the first payment was to have been made. Then there were promises of getting a million on signing day (which explains why he'd sign after the contract was cancelled). That also explains why he ended up requesting to be let out of his NLI (because that million never came).
UF didn't just break the contract, they apparently jerked him around to prevent him from signing elsewhere (most specifically, Miami).
It's hard to imagine Rashada won't get some amount from this.

The amount of money being offered to these kids is absolutely insane.
$14 million? 1 million signing bonus? That is more money than late 1st round picks get in NFL.
He was not even a top 80 player in his class. Holy shite what happened to the sport I loved?
As an example:
2023 Jaden Rashada: #81 player/#7 QB
2013 Cooper Bateman: #81 player/#4 QB
I could be wrong but I have a hard time seeing even Bama ponying up $14million/$1million signing bonus for a Cooper Bateman.

That's about his agreement with Miami. Rashada/his attorney is claiming Hathcock/Napier/Castro-Walker fraudulently interfered with his contract with Miami.
He didn't sue over breach of contract because (1) the contract with Gator Collective was terminated by Gator Collective on December 6th 2022 and (2) Gator Collective is defunct so there is no money to go after.

Yes, the UF NIL collective likely owes him 500,000.
But the story in several news outlets is that he was being told by Hathcock, Napier and Castro-Walker that he'd be paid the full amount of the original deal (through Hathcock instead of the Gator NIL organization), starting with a lump sum 1 million dollar payment after signing day.
He didn't get that lump sum and ended up requesting for release from his letter of intent. But due to that false communication, he was unable to sign and get a deal with Miami.
That explains why he'd still sign with UF when they cancelled his NIL deal, but then wanted out after signing day.
Those three in some combination are going to end up owing him a significant additional sum. I'm guessing the minimum would be 2 million (1/4th of the 9.5 million he reportedly had offered from Miami). but it could go as high as the full 13+ million the UF deal had. It seems very obvious the player was screwed over by UF because they didnt' want him to go back to Miami.
It also makes it seem like UF's coach and NIL Collective aren't to be trusted, which isn't good for UF even if they can escape legally. Cancelling a deal AFTER the first payment is due. Lying to keep the kid from signing with a rival. Then in the end he still ends up at a bigger rival anyway, suing UF for their misdeeds.

2 million is effectively what he would have made in one season of the reported Miami deal. It really looks like UF (Napier, Castro-Walker and Hathcock) were telling him lies to keep him on UF's commit list through signing day to prevent him from going to Miami. One year of the Miami contract is the likely minimum he'll be due because of that if that gets proven to a jury's belief in court.
That's looking like the starting point.

I struggle with the fact that the foundation of college football is the willingness of paticular boosters to throw away tens of millions of dollars every year.
How is this a sustainable model?

Forgot he was at UGA. Kirby Smart or the broader UGA brain trust definitely wanted this suit to happen. Why didn't he file this suit when at Arizona State? lmao.
That is the first thought I had. But, then I thought who the hell would want Florida to fire Billy Napier except Florida fans? UGA should have swayed this young man to stand pat for a bit.
