Frankly, I'm pissed off that Alabama would even schedule a team like FAMU. It's embarrassing. I know, everybody does it. Well, it needs to stop. It's a ripoff for the fans , and it's bad for college football. Here is a system that would be far better, and generate a lot more interest (and money).

Instead of the universities making their own non-conference schedules, have the NCAA do it. Here is one possible way.

Divide all the division 1 teams up into 4 groups based on their BCS standing from the previous season. Then, starting with the previous year's #1 team, pick their non-conference opponents by a random draw from within the group that they reside. Pick 2 of their opponents from the top half of their group and 2 from the bottom half (that way no team by virtue of an unlucky draw, would have to play last year's 3rd and 4th ranked teams, while the next guy down the list gets to play the 24th and 25th ranked teams). Make all these games a home-and-home two game series. Arrangements could be made for games like the Kickoff Classic and the Jerry World game. That way, instead of the pathetic teams the better teams schedule, they would be playing 2 teams from this group:
Alabama
LSU
Okla St
Stanford
Oregon
Boise
Kansas St
USCe
Wisconsin
Virginia Tech
Baylor
.....and 2 teams from this group:
Michigan
OU
Clemson
Georgia
Mich St
TCU
Houston
Nebraska
Southern Miss
West Virginia
Texas
The second tier of division 1 would do the same thing within their tier, and so on.
That's WAY better than W. Kentucky, FAMU and Western Carolina (Bama's non-conference sacrificial lambs). It's also good for college football as a whole.

It runs alot deeper than that bro.

There are economic factors to consider. Schools like ours help keep these "sacrificial lambs'" programs in existence.

I'm not going to waste time reading your proposal because no matter how good it is that isn't going to happen.

Colleges aren't going to let the NCAA take over scheduling in any capacity.

What we need are SEC/Pac 12 challenges, etc.

Where every team from the conference matches up with the other conference. If all conferences did that you'd have the same difficult matchup in week 1 across the board instead of a lot of teams scheduling 4 cupcakes.

I'm not reading all of that because it's dumb and misguided. The FCS schools NEED these games. These games pump a lot of money in to their programs. That's why they play them and why they need to stay, whether we as fans like it or not. Who cares that twice a year our team beats the tar out of a lower tier school (no offense flagshippers)? Deal with it, it's good for everyone involved.

I agree with this. With the exception of the IB Bama has a weak home schedule. I feel like Tide Pride should be paying me to go to see WKy, FAU, and WC instead of me paying them

I like it, and think it is integral to the success of Bama's football team.

Fans don't like it, don't buy the ticket.

One big OOC per year and rest cupcakes, perfect setup.

Make it like the society at large. Don't make them work for it, just give it to them. No reason why they should get creamed on a football field for a lousy mil.

are you friggin' serious? as much hate as the ncaa garners at present can you imagine the hailstorm this would produce? sometimes patsies come your way, like towson for LSU this year; TCU backed out late and we had to scramble for an opponent. LSU tries to schedule 2 solid OOC's a year and that is enough given the SEC schedule. and some of the patsies are in-state schools that need the money. i'll just say patsies play a role in the overall scheme of things and must be scheduled. (at least 2 per yr).

Why? Those WKU and FAU games provided opportunities for young players. We're not going to have the luxury of beating every SEC team 52-0, and getting the reserves in for nearly a full quarter.

Then who gives money to whom? How do you divvy it up? There are way too many flaws in your argument and just because the fans would like it more doesn't make it legitimate.

Maybe something besides a bitchy, off season thread. Maybe?
