I find it strange that the NCAA passed a rule that only applies to the power 5 schools, not normally how they do things, but if it's there, it's there.
The NCAA is strange indeed.

But it still happens every single year at every single program. It may be the semantic reason as to why he was fired. The convenient excuse. But he had to have pissed the wrong people off long before that.

Goff apparently had racked up a lengthy naughty list in only one year.

Where did you see that UA isn't paying him?

Nah. They'll pay him. Byrne will then go bring in a solid coach as his resume indicates.

Goff losing his job is because of Goff.

I didn't. But usually the NCAA violations negate a buyout. If I were Bama, I would be trying not to pay him.

True. But evidently the guy was a complete horse's rear end to the team.

Bingo! His changes went over like a turd in the punch bowl.

Now, we hear that he's violated NCAA bylaw by informing current players that their scholarships wouldn't be renewed.

It was best for Bama to cut bait on Goff.

I hope they are trying not to pay him

I imagine, that's what the meetings were about this morning

I hadn't seen that before.

what's also strange is that there are quite a few power baseball programs that are not in P5 conferences because baseball doesn't work that way necessarily.

Firing the baseball coach is a Bryne family tradition. When Baby Bryne's dad, $Bill, was at A&M his first move was to fire baseball coach Mark Johnson. They lost a series at texas. When the bus pulled up at Kyle Field, Bryne hops on the bus and fired Johnson after the team exited the bus.

At least $Bill allowed Johnson to ride back to College Station from Austin. Probably because it didn't cost anymore to fire him in College Station than it would be to fire him in Austin.

The rule is really weird, how the hell do all these coaches manage a roster then? There's still a metric butt ton of transfers and players leaving programs every season. Guess he should have just "convinced" them to transfer instead of ever mentioning a scholarship reduction...or he tried that then threatened the scholarship reduction.

At any rate, that rule is really dumb because it makes an already tough situation of managing 11.7 scholarships among 35 guys even harder. How are you suppose to walk into a bad situation and change anything for the better (at least, quickly)? Bama's baseball team is really untalented.

He had already begun destroying in-state relationships with high schools and treating baseball alums like trash.

I'd be able to live with the worst season in the modern era but he's in over his head and was Sonny Gallowaying the program. Good riddance.

Guys - he was not fired because he lost a lot of games in his first season.

He tried to violate NCAA regulations by pulling schollies, that just screams "good guy" to me.

He tried to pull 10 players scholarships, including Chandler Taylor. That is an NCAA violation, so he couldn't do it and they had no choice but to fire him

That's unreal. I mean, I get discreetly thinning the herd of guys who are soft or don't fit or aren't good players. But Taylor is none of those. You can't convince me that guy wouldn't be welcomed in some capacity in almost every locker room in the SEC.

What a disaster. Our own Sonny Galloway.

You guys don't know the full picture. There are allegations of misappropriating program funds, academic fraud while he was at Campbell, several high school coaches already saying he is not welcome on their campus, top recruits decommitting, attempting to violate NCAA rules after being told not to, actively shunning former players, the list is long. Nobody gives a crap his first year record stunk. Everyone was ok with that. It was how he handled himself and the program off the diamond. He's a program killer plain and simple. We had to stop the bleeding, so Byrne did what he had to do. Good call imho.

The best most succinct way to sum it up is the Alabama version of Sonny Galloway.
