In fairness, whatever your team was "used to," the exact opposite approach is prolly the right approach. Seems like the snowflakes couldnt handle it

You may know more than I do about the inner workings of Bama baseball and the relationship between Goff and his players. I don't claim to have any intimate details.

I do know that when NCAA rules are in jeopardy of being broken even after receiving a warning and when questions arise about how the HC used funds from the program after only one year at the wheel, then it's best to nip it in the bud.

1 year seems like a pretty unfair shake for a guy trying to change a program

One year does seem harsh, especially in baseball. Let's face it, its not like the guy was Bama's football coach. Got to believe there were issues, as others have stated, besides the won-loss record that got Goff fired.

as a poster said yesterday i'd go in state with casey dunn from samford. knows the state and has connections, good pedigree.

Alan Dunn was born in Gadsden and played for Bama. Pretty sure he knows the state and has some connections.

Meanwhile, our coach just wrapped up losing season #4 out of 4 for his tenure and probably will be back for a 5th.

Someone save us.

I don't think Bama is in a position to have to settle for an inexperienced head baseball coach.

Goff was a proven coach and look how that turned out. Dunn couldn't be much worse.

Hell, the school had a baseball alum event and Goff didn't even go to that. This has been going on all year with him. Rumors have been flying about him putting hands on players and threatening them. I hate letting a coach go after only 1 year, but this needed to happen.

Not a quick learner. You can't tell your players adios, hit the road. You tell the ones you want to leave that they probably will not see any playing time next year.

It was an outright NCAA violation to do what he tried to do. Bryne is covering Bama's butt.

That'd be true if the AD didn't change during that time. Byrne can easily tell anyone that Goof got fired for off the field problems and that Goof wasn't his hire in the first place.

But scholarships are a year by year commitment. Not renewing one is not a violation. Reducing one is not a violation. Both of those things happen at every single program every single year.

I can't tell if there are a bunch of trolls in this thread or people who know nothing about the situation.

Probably both

This is from another thread
quote:

In January 2015, NCAA schools passed legislation that required Power 5 conference schools, including Alabama and other SEC schools, to renew scholarships annually regardless of athletic performance. Previously, most scholarships were subject to annual renewal. Schools outside the Power 5 such as Louisiana Tech, Goff’s previous stop, are not required to renew scholarships annually.

University of Alabama baseball coach Greg Goff informed up to 10 players their scholarships would not be renewed, a violation of NCAA rules, The Tuscaloosa News has learned. According to NCAA bylaw 15.3.5.2, institutions cannot revoke or reduce a scholarship because of an athlete’s ability, performance, physical or mental condition. According to NCAA bylaw 15.3.4.3.1, an institution may not set forth an athletically related condition that would permit the institution to reduce or cancel a scholarship if the conditions are not satisfied.

UA Director of Athletics Greg Byrne issued a brief statement when contacted about the situation:

“As with any situation, the University of Alabama will follow NCAA guidelines. We are not revoking scholarships,” the statement said.

Players were informed of Goff’s decision to cut their scholarships during exit interviews on Monday after UA’s season concluded on Saturday with a 3-3 tie at Vanderbilt.

Some draft-eligible players were told they could return and have a roster spot, but were not guaranteed any scholarship money. Some walk-on players, including several who contributed during the season, were told they could try out for next year’s team again during practice this coming fall but were not guaranteed to retain their roster spots.

I find it strange that the NCAA passed a rule that only applies to the power 5 schools, not normally how they do things, but if it's there, it's there.

I hadn't seen that before.

But it still happens every single year at every single program. It may be the semantic reason as to why he was fired. The convenient excuse. But he had to have pissed the wrong people off long before that.

This is just the way they're using to not pay him.
