Sure. Another decade of Stetson Bennett at QB for UGA.

I’ve known a few career students. So if you can’t age out academically, can you age out athletically?

But there is precedent for graduate programs to limit eligibility. Ten years for a Masters degree is what I've heard the most often. Wouldn't be surprised if something similar isn't in place for PhD programs. If a student doesn't finish in that time, I guess they are just out.

Not sure how that scales to athletics, but I can see it being used as a defense.

Nope. Only the NBA does, and even that's a minimum age (19). The NFL requires 3 years out of high school - no age tied to that. So if some All-American stud graduates at 16, they could be in the league by 19.

I knew a guy at UGA who graduated with his undergrad and masters and had been playing on the club rugby team since he was a HS Jr. His older brother was on the rugby team when he began playing in high school.

Finally by the time he got his graduate degree he stopped playing.

That's 8 years of playing ball, although not NCAA affiliated. If the NCAA is toothless, why can't some career student continue to try to play?

And that has happened before.

Years in school and eligibility are two different things.

A la Stetson Bennett.

You get 5 years for undergrad (including redshirt if taken) + 1 year for Grad.

Max is 6 years.

Ageing out has never been a thing in CFB. Every decade or so some 40yo+ dude makes a nice newspaper article by walking on to their local university. Of course most of the Al Bundy types never play, but eligibility is the only factor truly standing in their way, not age.

There is no age limit for anybody enrolling in a universityyou clearly weren't an athlete in college.

bullshite. This has already been tried in court against the NFL. Maurice Clarett and Mike Williams got told to sit down and shut the frick up by leftist future supreme court justice Sonia Sotomayor and the Second Circuit.

Universities operate under VERY different rules than organizations like the NFL do.

Do that and high school kids would never make it into a program. I don't care how talented a high school kid is, he will not play over 23-30 year old men who have been in a college athletic program for 5-12 years.

In order to admit high school kids, you would also have to allow unlimited rosters.

Neither the NFL nor the NBA ages a player out. As a matter of fact, the players union negotiates harder on behalf of the experienced veterans than the younger players. Salary caps on draft picks help older veterans stay on rosters (keeping them on payroll and under salary cap limits longer). Do not make stuff up

Read what I wrote. I said they have age restrictions and they do on the younger end. I more meant eligibility than age anyway you could absolutely enforce eligibility restrictions….this isn’t that complicated how do you think the NFL, MLB, NBA, etc make rules? Your freshman in football are ineligible for the NFL. NBA you are ineligible until you are 19. In the MLB they have even more specific eligibility rules. None of them set eligibility rules on the higher end because it doesn’t benefit their model but for college sports it would benefit them to place an upper eligibility limit

unlimited eligibility

Once players are deemed employees of the schools, the next step will be to make it where they don't have to be students in good standing. The eligibility issue comes after that, and it seems inevitable.
