Is Trooper Taylor a top WR coach?

While he is a recruiter, or shall we say bagman, first and foremost, he has a surprising history of success with WRs.
Here are some kids he coached up
2006-Tenn- Robert Meachem - All American (RD1)
2007-Tenn- Lucas Taylor - All - SEC 2nd
2008- OkieSt- Dez Bryant - All American (RD1)
The AU Years
2009- Darvin Adams - Took a lowly regarded SO receiver Darvin Adams and made him the first player to nearly break 1000 receiving yards at Auburn in nearly two decades.
2010- First season in AU history to have three separate players have 500+ Yards
Darvin Adams first AU player with consecutive 900+ yard seasons
Successfully converted Kodi Burns from terrible QB to average WR.
2011-2012 - Successfully coached up Emory Blake to become #4 All time on Auburn's receiving list despite having Keihl Frazier as QB
It would appear that everywhere Troop-a-Loop goes, he coaches up the players to become some of the best receivers in program history. Surprised someone hasn't hired him yet
**ETA: By someone I mean a SEC team. Joker Phillips managed to get hired can't see how Troop doesn't have a quality job yet

Something about him always being accused of shady dealings is what I hear.

Is he not still at Arky State?

I thought the WR play improved tremendously in his first year at Auburn.

As sad as it is to say, our WR play elevated dramatically during Trooper Taylor's time at Auburn. Even i 2011/2012, you take out Emory Blake and his concussinos and they weren't the problem. Our QBs just couldn't get them the ball

Good post......I was reading a thread on him the other day debating the very same issue....is TT actually a good coach and developer of talent?.....couldn't really recall what he did at AU, other than his street agent rep. The only elite WR I could ever recall him recruiting was Dez Bryant

It's weird because AU fans hate him, me included. He seems to bring a culture and attitude that can be toxic to a team. The collapse of Tennessee and Auburn all happened while he was there.
He got Dez to perform at a really high level too.
In a vacuum, it does seem like he gets production from his WRs. I don't know if he maximizes it but his WR corps always seem to do better than before he showed up

I think he does his job and improves receivers year to year but his time at Auburn can also be attributed to Malzahn being there also. Adams had great hands when Trooper arrived and still had great hands when hewn undrafted. Trooper taught him how to return to the ball and to put a helmet on someone and block on the outside.
I honestly think that Kodi would have been a good to great receiver for Auburn had he moved to the spot a year or two earlier. He only had a year at the position and came along nicely but time was against him.
To sum up, Trooper is a good coach, great recruiter but I think he brings too much baggage to a program for big time programs to take that risk now. I think he encourages a lawlessness in the program and brings out the worst in players attitudes. No insider stuff here, just what I observed on the sidelines and postgame stuff.

No he's not a good coach.
He's been around some talented guys, but his "talent" is limited to "recruiting"
There were stories at UT about how he used to fall asleep in offensive meetings, then Fulmer would wake him up and tell him to leave and make recruiting calls. However, when Randy Sanders was forced to resign, Trooper campaigned to to be OC. I'm sure Fulmer got a good laugh out of that.

Word is that he turned down some SEC team to stay at ASU. Family reasons.
