How are the (financial) numbers themselves? Is the program in the red as well?

You won a fricking natty at Mississippi State. That’s your return on investment.

Three CWS and a National Title in the last ~8 years at perhaps the lowest natural resource school in the conference

Admittedly I'm not a serious college baseball guy but what am I missing here

Tony V has only won 1 natty so far. Let’s pump the breaks.

As long as it makes money who cares... It is a big money maker for the town. In a small town like Oxford, that generates a lot of NIL money from Locals.
Because investing that money into basketball would bring in way more money for us.

But the issue is it was 3 and a National titles in a span of 4 years (including 2018 covid canceled season in the count), and that 2018 team was the most loaded of the bunch, so it’s been a pile of doodoo for 4 years straight.

Would it? How much money are we going to make, than say Mizzu with a sweet 16 run, or even state?

That theory we should invest every penny into Football as that is where we make money.

Basketball is traditionally in the red every year for OM. We still can't sell out the games.

Well 2018 was not covid. It was called covid 19 for a reason. It cancelled the 2020 season. And the Rebels were going to win it that year. Absolutely loaded with pitching and hitting. Every position.

For a program that is credited with being the first to care about SEC baseball and having all these big crowds and nice stadiums and MLB alumni…. What exactly does the program have to show for it that makes it special other than “we will give your right fielder a hamburger”?

But come on man. It's baseball. MSU Baseball.

Yeah it is now but that’s why you invest and get it out of the red. Baseball was a fricking black hole before we hired Bianco. Same with basketball before Beard with the exception of a few decent years.

The hard part is done for basketball. We have a new beautiful arena and great facilities. The foundation is laid. Now we just have to water and fertilize it with more NIL contributions and higher coaching salaries.

The ceiling is way higher for basketball profitably than baseball. As great as our baseball tradition is, it’s not far out of the red. There are only half a dozen or so baseball programs than run a profit. We are one of them thankfully but nobody is making money hand over fist with baseball.

It really stuck in my crawl the way texas came in and kicked our arse and the clowns in LFL were yucking it up kissing the t-sips arse and feeding them so that those kids would like them. its pitiful. where are the piss balloons? THAT is how you treat opposing fans and players. at best, you ignore them, but you dont cower and dance like a monkey for their enjoyment.

Baseball is basically an olympic sport for schools, it's a revenue loser, and with NIL and the skyrocketing costs of football and basketball, you will see a pull back in resources for that and other olympic type sports. Athletic departments are going to get a lot smaller in the next few years.

Hell half the teams in the conference dont even care about it. And as you said no one outside of it does.

If Southern Cal actually cared about baseball, they wouldn't let that program die. But they dont and went all in on football instead.

Yep and our country club LFLers are crying at anyone that points out how retarded they look celebrating with the opposing team.

At least Ole Miss doesnt feed Saban and Bama at the Grove when they got destroyed I mean geez have some ounce of respect. But nope. Our retarded fans are just happy to be on social media. And claim thats baseball and shite and think their sport is superior and shite all while losing and no one cares anhmore.

It really does start at the top. We lucked out by having Keith Carter waiting in the wings. I couldn't believe it when they gave him the job because I knew he would do well and that was never our typical hiring practice.

You need a young and aggressive AD that can forsee the new world of college athletics. Then, the school needs to show the fanbase that it is serious about trying to win and start drumming up the support again. I think this can all happen but at this point in history, it's just not the time to fall so far behind. The feeding of opponents isn't the worst thing, but the fallout from it is a sign of a really upset fanbase at the results on the field. I don't blame you at all for being upset about it. It's like salt in the wounds.

Ole Miss makes a profit on two sports:

1. Football
2. Baseball

We lost money on every other sport, including basketball. Women's basketball was the biggest drain by far. I wish we could get rid of it, but title 9 says we can't.
