Where do you put Nebraska and Notre Dame?
Posted on 3/22/18 at 3:01 pm to LukeSidewalker
When you've won 1 NC in 65 years you have to have something else to bolster that claim. Tn doesn't have anything else. They are in the next tier.

We were talking about whether a team is still a blue-blood or not...
Notre Dame is an old blue-blood but since ND last NC, it has played in one NC game...
Since 1960
USC leads the series 28-27-3
USC leads the number of NC 7- 4
NC won by USCw 04, 03, 78, 74, 72, 67, 62
NC won by ND 88, 77, 73. 66
as you can see ND is fading.......
So according to that tier system posted, USCw should be tier 1, ND, at most, tier 2
Here is some information you can use

If they are still a blue blood program now (which they are) after how miserable the past 15 years have been for them, then of course they used to be.
No, it's no joke. They were never considered a blue blood

They're still top 8 on almost any all-time ranking.
AP: #3
CFDW: #2
ESPN: #1 (tied with 5 others)
Winsipedia: #5

So who are the 8? I guess this means you are including Penn State???
Alabama
Notre Dame
Ohio State
Southern Cal
Oklahoma
Michigan
Nebraska
Texas
That's the list. There are some good programs not on the list, but good doesn't make you a blue blood.
Dominance in a short time frame (Miami) doesn't get you there either.
You don't stop one because you have a couple bad decades (Nebraska). Although if the have another bad decade we're going to have to revisit it.

They're the winningest program
Michigan has also been playing longer than most. They've played 56 more games than Bama, 43 more than OSU, 21 more than Texas.

There is no denying they were top tier team, but ND is living off its reputation more than anything they are doing on the field.
Look at the last 25 years (and no NC)

The only SEC (maybe any program) that played for a 3-Peat 3 times 64-65-66 78-79-80 11-12-13

That's only 25 years though.

The only program that played for a 3-peat 3 different times....I know that's not something Florida fans would know anything about...........

They have 2 AP NCs total
They have one in '97 and before that it was '48 (AP)
...so AFTER this year it will be 1 in 70 years.

Michigan may not have been good the past 20 years, but they cemented their blue blood status well before that. Same as Nebraska
Well, they're living off their first 50 years and for years the Big 10 was the big 2 with them and OSU...they've essentially been a non factor since the Big 10 expanded. I suppose they still get blue blood status but far from cemented IMO

can A program be a blue blood forever even when they appear to be done with that particular sport?
It’s gotta stop at some point I would think.
This is a good question. I mean people still think of UCLA as a blue blood in basketball. ND in football. Nebraska in football?

My guess is we will finish up around 15-20th all time by the time they close up shop on the sport in a decade or so.
They haven't closed up shop on boxing...they are not going to close up shop in football for another 100-150 years.

The high schools will wind up dropping football and probably soccer due to
rising insurance costs. Soccer can survive without high school but football
can’t in it’s current form, it’s just too expensive. When high school football goes,
college football is next. Perhaps the NFL with set up a minor league to feed
them players but the public support for minor league football probably will be lukewarm
at best.

Michigan, ND, and Nebraska are losing blue blood status themselves, but maybe at a little slower rate than Tennessee.
